Bollywood meets Parliament

Yesterday Shilpa Shetty dropped into the House of Commons where senior ministers put aside their dignity to fawn over the actress. Tony Blair gave her a photo signed by himself and wife Cherie while Jack Straw placed his arm round the cream Punjabi suited Big Brother winner to have their photo taken behind the Speaker’s chair.

Shilpa remained composed while all around her the business of government was unceremoniously put aside. Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell and Northern Ireland Secretary Peter Hain both found time to jump on the media bandwagon.

Shetty’s Westminster visit brought chaos to the parliamentary corridors as MPs fell over themselves to be photographed with her. She was given a tour of the place, prime seats in the public gallery for Prime Minister’s questions, and lunch in the member’s dining room.

On a personal note, I think this woman is getting way to much publicity because of the supposed racial slur in the Big Brother house. I wonder how many people really heard of Shilpa Shetty before this all began.
