Cartoon Network manager Jim Samples has resigned as head of the Cartoon Network due to a marketing stunt that went wrong last month. Boston went on alert last month, bridges and roads were closed after flashing devices were discovered. The devices were battery powered signs that promote the Cartoon Network late-night adult themed show Aqua Team Hunger Force.
Each sign show a character from the show with a raised middle finger.
Samples said “He felt compelled to stand down immediately in recognition of the situation.”
Us TV giant Turner Broadcasting that owns the Cartoon Network, and a advertising agency that run the stunt agreed to pay Boston $2,000,000 in compensation for emergency responses. $1,000,000 to cover the cost of the security operation and another million as a good will gesture.
