As always on a Sunday night at 8pm I sit down to watch of my favourite shows on the TV, and that is Top Gear, which is shown on BB2. As many of you know they take cars on test drives and basically talk about what is going on in the car world but with a fun edge to it. However, last nights one was different, as the show was shot in the U.S, and all three of the presenters had a mission to complete. That mission was instead of getting to Miami and picking up a rental car, they each had to purchase a car for only $1000, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May were finding it hard, but all three managed to get a car for their $1000.
So now they had a series of tests to do, one test was an American version of the Stigg. They had to take their cars around a track in the quickest possible time but as you would expect they were all slow. It was when they all had to do the accelerate and then brake before falling into a lake at the end of the track that was one funny moment, because Richard Hammond’s Pickup was not good, it hit the bank of the lake and was just about to fall in, and that was only the start of the fun.
So now to the main test, this was for them to drive their old bangers from Miami to New Orleans, with other tests along the way. The hardest part for Jeremy and Richard was the fact that they had no A/C which was to prove troublesome for the two presenters. One of the tests along the way was for the three of them to find road kill and then eat it that night while camping. They did manage to find a squirrel but they agreed that they would rather go hungry. In the mean time, Clarkson was not happy with that so he went to see if he could find more road kill, no one was prepared for what they saw because in the distance they saw Jeremy coming back with what looked like a cow on the roof of his car. He said that it was just lying there at the edge of the road so he got some help to lift it onto his car, but the boys could not bring themselves to eat it.
But the funniest and also the scariest moment was when they had to drive through Alabama, and write things on each others cars to annoy the locals. Richard had ‘Man Love Rules’ on his truck, James May had ‘Country Music is Rubbish’ and also NASCAR is Rubbish, on his, while Jeremy had ‘Hilary for President’. All of these would not go down well with the locals in this part of America as the boys were about to find out
They had to pull into a gas station, while there the woman owner came out and made a remark about the writing on their cars. She then said, “You wait till the boys get here,” and that was when a truck pulled up with a few men in it. They then started to throw things at the presenters and the camera crew as well. The presenters all tried to rush off as they knew that they were in danger, but at the same time James could not start his battery so Richard had to help him start. Once it started they all sped off while being chased for a while down the road.
Once they were no longer being chased, they pulled over and decide to wipe the offending words of the side of their cars, which was a wise move.
Okay, so the program was in large very funny but that last part was taking it a bit too far and could have had a worse outcome, so let’s hope that they do not try something like that again.
