Deadwood’s Ian McShane has been cast as Merriman Lyon in 20th Century Fox and Walden Media’s new fantasy movie The Dark Is Rising. The movie is about an eleven year old boy who discovers he’s the last of a group of immortals known as The Old Ones. The Old Ones fight an ever growing presence of darkness, and the boy is charged with saving the world.
Merriman (McShane) is one of The Old Ones and acts as the boys mentor and defender.
The Dark Is Rising is directed by David Cunningham, and produced by Marc Platt. Frances Conroy and Alexander Ludwig will also star. The movie is based on a volume of Susan Cooper’s five book series.
