Dreamgirls apologise to Motown

Dreamworks, the makers of Dreamgirls have run an ad in the Hollywood Reporter and Daily Variety trade papers stating they are sorry for any confusion. Dreamworks apologised to record label Motown, making clear the movie is a work of fiction.

Dreamgirls is widely seen as a loose version of the Supremes story. A Motown spokesperson said, the movie had upset some artists who felt the Motown label was falsely depicted in a negative light.

The advert reads “Dreamgirls is a work of fiction. It is also an homage to Motown. For any confusion that has resulted from our fictional work, we apologise to Mr Gordy and all of the incredible people that were part of the great legacy. It is vital that people understand that the real Motown story has yet to be told.”

Berry Gordy is pleased with the advertisement.
