A poll of Britain’s top 100 best reads has placed Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice top of the list showing that classical writing is still enjoyed. Second on the list comes JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings.

Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre polled 3rd, with JK Rowling’s Harry Potter taking 4th position. Sixth position is taken by the Bible while Charlotte Bronte’s sister Emily takes 7th place with Wuthering Heights. George Orwell’s 1984 came in at 8th position.

The complete works of William Shakespeare polled position 14.

The list was compiled from an online poll of 2000 readers for World Book Day Thursday.
