Paul Corley, managing director of GMTV has gone on air and apologised to viewers who entered the GMTV competitions, which they had no chance of winning. The GMTV problem was highlighted in BBC1′s Panorama program
Corley said: “I’d just like to apologise for everything that’s gone on.” He went on to blame 2 or 3 people at Opera Interactive Technology who run GMTV’s phone-in competitions. “If we had known, it would have stopped. GMTV would reimburse any viewers who had lost out, but Panorama’s estimate that £40 million had been fraudulently charged was “a serious exaggeration.”
OTI have said they have improved procedures and have not made money from any past errors. It is estimated that viewers have been swindled out of approximately £40,000,000 spanning the past 4 years.
