Pirate’s movie is chopped in China

According to trade magazine Variety, some scenes in the movie Pirate’s of the Caribbean: At World’s End has been censored for Chinese cinemas. Scenes featuring Hong Kong actor Chow Yung-fat, who plays pirate Captain Sao Feng have apparently been trimmed.

A Disney spokesperson told variety magazine that audiences would see a Chinese version of the movie, and added that cuts had been made but would not say what.

China Film Group who distributes the film at first said that no cuts had been made, but declined to comment on a Beijing News report saying that it had cut scenes of violence and horror, said Variety.

Apparently one of the cut scenes is of Chow’s recital of a poem by Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai, and called Guan Shan Yue, which means The Moon Shining Over the Mountain on the Border.
