Bernard Manning age 76, while in Manchester General Hospital being treated for a kidney condition has died. The controversial comedian made his fame in the 70’s on the Comedians TV show. Manning’s own website branded himself one of the most outrageous and successful comedians of our time.
Manning’s biographer, Jonathan Margolis, who saw Manning six weeks ago said: “The last of the joke-tellers. I think he’ll inevitably become famous for this question of whether he a racist comedian - and it’s a funny thing because it’s some way down the list of things he was. He was a man of his age - and as people of his age went, he was relatively un-racist. Until his dying day, he didn’t understand what all the fuss was about.”
Fellow comedian Frank Carson said: He whipped out gags galore and made sure everybody got a laugh. He was a wonderful man. If I had to write his gravestone I’d put: ‘Here lies Bernard Manning, comedian, who died 76 years old.’ Underneath that I’d put ‘what a pity, he had a booking next week.’ He’s gone but he’ll never be forgotten. He was one of the most generous men on earth.”
i think bernard manning should have been knighted for the services he provided to the majority of people he gave pleasure to !!!! e.g. laughter laughter and more laughter, in this crazy politically correct world that we find ourselves living in, if people were more concerned with the real world and putting that to rights, instead of debating about was he? was”nt he “racist” ? “of course he wasnt racist” it was all a very clever act …that made him a multi millionaire.that alone must surely say to the “master debaters” that surely there was a vast market for his very harmless and may i say very very funny Escapism from a sometimes very sad world…..also its charities sad loss too. god bless you bernard ! you will surely live forever THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES……
