She has done it, X Factor winner Leona Lewis has become the first British solo artist to have ever achieved a US number one in the album chart with her debut album Spirit just days before Mariah Carey was expected to storm the U.S. pop charts. Leona has also achieved a US number one single with Bleeding Love which also makes her the first British woman to do so since Kim Wilde in 1987.
Her debut album Spirit has already sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide so far in the space of six months.
Simon Cowbell said that “A lot of people criticize these shows and ask if we’ll ever find a truly international star, funnily enough, I said at the beginning of that particular year that my main purpose was to find an artist who could sell all over the world.” Well it looks like he has found that in Leona because she is the next big thing and can only go from strength to strength in the years to come.
Leona’s appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show where she performed Bleeding Love seems to have done wonders for her career because soon after Bleeding Love went to No. 1 on the U.S. singles charts.
Leona said that “I feel like I’m just getting started, People are just kind of hearing about me, and I hope this is setting me to do more things and have a long career.”
I don’t think that she has anything to worry about she is a true performer that was just waiting for the right opportunity to come along and that was in the form of the X Factor.

I think Leona Lewis is better than Mariah Carey but just slightly under Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. She is definately a breath of air for the entertainment world. Hopefully, she will be a role model for all young girls and not get caught up in all the crap that goes along with show business. I wish her a long and fulfilling career.
