Former Shameless star to join EastEnders as Phil Mitchell’s love interest

Maggie O’Neill the former star from Channel 4’s show Shameless is set to join the cast of Eastenders, and she will be playing the love interest of Phil Mitchell. Maggie O’Neill played Sheila a lesbian in the TV show Shameless.

Maggie will arrive in Eastenders in July and will play Suzy Branning the sister of Max and Jack. In the show she will be both “glamorous and independent,” and has got her sights set on hard man Phil Mitchell, oh well someone has to want the big lump. Maggie O’Neill said “The Brannings are a great family and I’m excited to become one of them. Suzy is a woman to be reckoned with.”

The Brannings have been a great addition to the show and have had some great storylines, from the affair of Max and Stacy which finally led to Max being buried alive by his wife Tanya. It seems that Eastenders has been getting great storylines of late and now have a great cast and Maggie O’Neill will be one more to ad to that list.

Executive producer of EastEnders, Diederick Santer said that O’Neill was “yet another top drawer addition to our wonderful cast“.

Sadly actress Emma Barton who plays Honey Mitchell will be written out of the show later this year.
