Chelsea and England star Frank Lampard’s mum Pat has died at the aged of 58 after suffering from severe pneumonia. Pat died earlier this morning just 10 days after being admitted to an Essex hospital.
Before Pat died she spoke of her son being a huge inspiration. She said that “The pride I feel as Frank’s mum means more to me than any football success - pride that he’s a decent human being,”
In a statement it said that “Frank would like to acknowledge and say thank you for the compassion shown to him by the manager Avram Grant and all the staff at Chelsea Football Club during what has been a terribly traumatic period for him and his family,”
It now looks unlikely that Frank will make himself available for Saturday’s match and remains unclear whether he will face Liverpool in their Champions League semi-final second leg next Wednesday.
Chelsea Football Club’s paid tribute to Pat Lampard, saying that “Everybody at Chelsea Football Club is absolutely devastated to hear the tragic news of the passing away of Pat Lampard, Frank’s mother. Our sincerest and deepest condolences go out to Frank, his father Frank Snr, sisters Natalie and Claire and to their immediate family and friends. Pat was a very familiar face to many people at Chelsea FC. The club will be offering all the support it can to Frank and his family at this time.”
All our thoughts are with Frank and his family at this time
