The question has been asked as to whether the release of Grand Theft Auto 4 could actually hurt the Box Office figures of Iron Man. The thing is, it has been projected that GTA IV could make somewhere in the region of $350-$400+ million, and that’s just in the first week of the games release, this adds to 5 or 6 million copies being sold.
And in a recent study the same audience for a video game is much the same for going to the movies, so if 6 million people decide to purchase Grand Theft Auto 4, then that means that they will not be going to the theater to watch Iron Man. The thing is all the people who have purchased GTA 4 might decide to stay in to start playing the game, and as a result Paramount could end up losing $41 million on Iron Man’s opening weekend.
A lot is riding on the opening weekend of Iron Man, the thing is the movie has been hyped for some time now and is predicted that it could take at least $100 million plus, so if the movie does not reach that figure then I worry that the media will have something to say.
So if Robert Downey Jr. Marvel superhero Iron Man will take $100 million while Grand Theft Auto IV takes $400 million, then this could be a huge turning point in the world of entertainment.
