Abba as you know is the very successful Swedish band that made music from 1970’s to 1982. The four band members were formed by friends Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, the two of them was then joined by Anni-Frid Lyngstad (Frida) and Agnetha Fältskog. These band members at one stage in their lives were married to each other respectively, and together they topped the charts for years selling more than 370 million records world wide. For those of you who have often wondered what ABBA stands for, it is in fact an acronym which is formed from the first letter of each band member (Anni-Frid, Benny, Bjorn, Agnetha).
Abba’s music is enjoyed by so many people around the world; their songs are catchy as the songs are simple with a great beat. ABBA showed that they had what it takes in the music industry by becoming the first pop group from mainland Europe to have chart success in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom and the United States.
I grew up listing to ABBA’s music, I can remember my parents taking me and my brother on a car journey being stuck in the back on a hot summer’s day, and what made it bearable was the sound of ABBA coming from the speakers. I could never have imaged now 28 years later ABBA’s music is now coming from my iPod, the band might not be together but their music still lives on. So many bands disappear and then a few years later they revive the band to enjoy a little more success however; ABBA are different, they have never had to reform to keep their music alive. It seems that no matter where you go in the world there is an ABBA tribute band who wants to share their music with you and with Abba Mania being shown across the world it seems that ABBA is still going strong.
How much longer ABBA’s music will still be popular is a question that can’t be answered, but I would like to let ABBA know “Thank you for the music.”
