Last week Oasis rocker Noel Gallagher: said that Jay-Z Should not Headline the Glastonbury festival saying that he is not rock ‘n’ roll enough. It’s said that Noel is blaming the Jay-Z for the lack of tickets sold at this year’s event. He has accused organisers of the event of steering the festival too far away from its rock ‘n’ roll roots.
Noel said that “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. If you start to break it then people aren’t going to go. I’m sorry, but Jay-Z? No chance. Glastonbury has a tradition of guitar music and even when they throw the odd curve ball in on a Sunday night you go ‘Kylie Minogue?’ “I don’t know about it. But I’m not having hip hop at Glastonbury. It’s wrong“.
But Usher has blasted Noel Gallagher over his comments about Glastonbury headliner Jay-Z. Usher said that he believes that Noel is wrong to say Jay-Z shouldn’t headline the music festival.
Usher said that “It really shocked me that he said Jay-Z was the wrong choice. Jay-Z is an incredible artist and headliner. I saw him perform at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, and you’re not getting better than that.”
Usher is not the first person to blast Noel. Event organiser Michael Eavis said that “Why did Noel need to get involved? It was a bit weird, to be honest. He should give someone else a chance. He needn’t have said that and I was disappointed he did.”
Usher is not the only one who thinks s that Jay-Z will be great at the festival because The Zutons think so to.
The Zutons frontman Dave McCabe said that he thinks it is great a rapper is headlining the traditionally rock-orientated music event.
Dave said that “You have to have a bit of everything; it’s good to have something a bit different. I think Jay-Z is one of the best rappers around. I’ve actually got his ‘Black’ album and I like it, so I’m not deeply offended by him as headliner. I saw Kanye West at Coachella and he was a bit s**t as a headliner to be honest. He wasn’t very good with what he did.”
The Glastonbury festival takes place in Somerset, Southwest England, over the weekend of June 27-29.
