David Archuleta\'s dad evicted from CBS American Idol

It has been reported that American Idol finalist David Archuleta’s father, Jeff Archuleta, has been banned from the shows rehearsals and also from going backstage. Jeff Archuleta has been told by he shows producers that he can no longer join David as he prepares for the show. A source said that his intense backstage involvement with his son’s song choices had become a concern for the series.

The reason for this is because despite being warned against changing Lyrics in a song David’s father is said to have insisted on changing the lyrics to Ben E. King’s “Stand by Me,” in order to slip in a verse from Sean Kingston’s “Beautiful Girls,” this is a move that would cost the production additional song-clearance costs.

Charlie Toft who is a writer for Film.com and a member of USA Today’s Idol coach panel said that “Of all the major teenage contestants Idol has ever had, David appears to be the most heavily programmed and least spontaneous. [H]is stereotypically showy way of singing suggests he and his father have been aiming at this goal for a long time.” In an interview Jeff denied being a stage dad and said he acts as a “music consultant” to his son.

Dean Kaelin who is David Archuleta’s vocal coach said that “He is just not allowed to go into the arranging sessions with David; it is more of a fairness issue than anything else, since the other two contestants don’t have people on site to help with their arrangements. It is not a punishment. Jeff happens to be there because David is a minor and is required by law to have a guardian with him. David’s dad is just a caring, concerned parent that fortunately has some musical expertise, and some people fear that because of this, David receives an unfair advantage.”

What do you think?

What will his dad do if David wins the show?

  1. i think that this proves the point: another kid made to realise daddy’s dreams. the fact that he altered lyrics is appaling and far from being innocent, he does his father’s bidding which means he has no personality. to leave ‘and no religion, too’ out of ‘Imagine’ fits perfectly into this concept:
look sweet, vry a bit, show no personailty and above all, piss no one off. how boring. please make life easier for this little boy - vote him off.

  2. Every time I see this kid and that plastic smile and his squinty eyes I think - ohoh!

And, his father - he wants a free ride. He can’t wait till his son starts making money and so he can quit his job (if he has one).
