Before the US child pornography trial of R Kelly can get underway the Jury has to be picked, so far the first three has been picked so we just need another 13 people and the trial can then get under way. The three jurors who have been picked so far are a telecoms worker, a business executive and finally a Baptist preacher’s wife. R Kelly has gone to trial for allegations of child pornography however; the R&B star has denied filming himself while engaging in sex acts with underage girls, who some have said were as young as 13.
The three jurors who have so far been chosen have said that they will not have any problem going ahead with the case, but a few potential jurors have been dismissed. One man said that he was awestruck by Kelly; the other said that if R Kelly was on the video then he would have some explaining to do. There are still another twenty other jurors to go through interviews, but one has to wonder if R Kelly will ever get a fair trial.
The problem is this child porn case has been in the media for a few years now, and as a result many people would have already formed their own opinions. You also have to think that some celebrities have had an easy time of late in the court room, so maybe as it is going to a grand jury people will want to make an example of him.
I for one would not want to be a juror in this case as it must be a hard position to be in, and so hard not to talk about it with others. One thing is certain though; if R Kelly is found guilty of this child porn case then he could face up to 15 years in jail.
Do you think that R Kelly will receive a fair trial?
