Last night on American Idol, the last three contestants David Archuleta, David Cook and Syesha Mercado each had three opportunities to persuade their fans to grant them one of the two spots in next week’s finale.
In the first round last night the judges picked the songs. Paula chose the Billy Joel ballad ”And So It Goes” for David Archuleta, Simon felt that his performance was ”a bit predictable.” Randy gave Syesha Mercado Alicia Keys’ ”If I Ain’t Got You.” Randy applauded Syesha for stepping up her game when it counts.
Simon Chose David Cook’s song. He chose ”The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” prompting Ryan to suggest that David Cook has won more than Simon’s vote. Simon, told David, ”I thought it was one of your best performances to date.”
In Round 2 it was the contestant’s choice what song they sung next David Archuleta kicked off with a hit meant to connect with his younger fans, Chris Brown’s ”With You.” Syesha didn’t fare much better with her choice, ”Fever.” And David Cook sung Switchfoot’s ”Dare You to Move’’ Simon said that ”I think all three of you had an okay middle round.”
Then in round 3 it was the producers, who chose the songs. David’s rendition of ”Longer” had Simon rolling his eyes and balking at Dan Fogelberg’s ”gooey” lyrics. Syesha, sang an up-tempo track, ”Hit Me Up.” ”I don’t know if it’s going to be good enough to get into the finals of American Idol,” Paula warned her, and David Cook sung his rendition of Aerosmith’s ”I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.” Simon said that ”David Cook wins the night”.
So America who will be the final two will tonight see Syesha go home in third place and will the final be as predicted between the two David’s?
