Sales figures were calculated through nine leading music accounts and the figures show that Death Cab For Cutie’s album Narrow Stairs sold in its first day, 54,000 copies. Pundits in the music industry suggest that the album could end up selling about 135,000-145,000 in its first week, and with those kinds of numbers it is possible for the band the reach the top spot of the Billboard 200. Narrow Stairs is looking to be a little like Panic At The Disco’s album Pretty.Odd, which sold 54,000 in its first day and went on to sell 131,000.
The new album is a little change for the band as we are used to them producing albums that have warm and bright flavors. Narrow Stairs is different in the way that the band has now widened their scope with dark synth tones as well as a biting atmosphere. Before fans start to get a little worried that Death Cab For Cutie’s are totally changing their style, don’t worry as they are still covering what we love them for, rejection and regret as well as love and happiness.
The album has that perfect balance of driving rock, retro vibe as well as moody mid-tempo ballads. The end result is a knockout of an album which is better than any work the band has done before.
