We recently told you about the Universal release of The Incredible Hulk and the new international trailer and you will probably remember me banging on about the CGI which I totally hate (See here), well a fan has come along and made his own model which I must say is much better than Hollywood’s version.
Jonas Thornqvist from Sweden created this new Incredible Hulk model using 3ds max, mental ray and Photoshop software, he said that though the new movie is coming out he wanted to create his very own version, he carried on to say that it was very hard to make the model with that much mass but he did enjoy the process.
Well all I can say is Jonas you are a god and a genius because I agree that the model you created is by far much better than the CGI crap that the film has. Come on people come here and debate all you like I still stand by the fact the CGI within the film makes the Incredible Hulk look pathetic, even more so child like material. It is supposed to be a great movie fair enough but come on it is not supposed to be an animated film.

Do not get me wrong some films with CGI are fantastic like the Matrix for example, out of this world stuff but not animated looking. Please let me know what you think of CGI and please do post comment on Jonas Thornqvist’s model?

I agree that this Hulk looks superior to the one in the latest Hulk movie — the Hulk from the first movie being one of the pinnacles of creature modeling — but you have to take it in context with articulation and movement. There is an equal chance that the static image of Jonas’ model would look like crap if we saw it animated.
One of the major problems with the new Hulk vision is the way displacement maps are treated. The base model doesn’t look good to begin with, but then an amateurish level of poorly made displacement maps is painted onto the model, giving it a very CGI quality, which is the exact opposite effect you want when trying to get the audience to believe the creature is real.
Keep on pressing for better CGI in movies. Being in the industry, I know what’s possible and there really is no excuse for big-budget blockbusters to use consistently poor digital creations.

Awesome model….but how is this any better from what we’ve seen?
This might look better to some…but remember this is a standalone model that isn’t moving or composited into a scene. When you have to consider movement, reflections, and the like…well, let’s just say this model needs to be put in the proper context before it can be compared to the movie version.
I’d like to see this model put into the same pose as the “roar” shot from the movie and composited into the same background before calling this better. Then I’d like to see it animated….
