Nip Tuck star Portia de Rossi to wed Ellen DeGeneres

Australian beauty and star of the U.S. hit drama Nip Tuck Portia de Rossi is to wed her partner, comedian Ellen DeGeneres This news comes after the states ruling that banned gay marriages. The comedian decided to make the announcement on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, she stated that the audience was over the moon and erupted into applause, the apple couple even received a standing ovation. It seems that de Rossi and DeGeneres will be the first to take advantage of California’s Supreme Court new ruling that allows for same-sex couples to tie the knot.
The ruling showed that stopping same sex marriages was discriminating, but this new ruling is bound to have nationwide implications. In a statement the California Chief Justice Ron George said “Limiting the designation of marriage to a union ‘between a man and a woman’ is unconstitutional and must be stricken from the statute.” It seems as if George has a soft caring side as he said that all couples in California have a basic right to a civil marriage this is regardless of their sexual orientation.
California has now become the second US state to allow gay marriages after Massachusetts; the new ruling has gone down well with gay rights activists and are overjoyed with the new law. Not long after the new ruling gay couples were lining up at the clerks office for a marriage licensees in San Francisco, this is despite the fact that officials will not be able to issue them as it will take 30 days for this new ruling to come into effect.

Frankly I think this is great.
A lot of attention has been paid to promoting male homosexuality as normal, but the female equivalent is still, I suspect misunderstood, Mariel Hemingway and Rosanne (or was that Woody Allen
) notwithstanding (yes Madonna, it had been done — OOOh, get you! mieow (etc.)) and associated either with soft-porn fantasies or crewcuts, square body frames, bov-ver boots (read Doc Martens) and lumberjack shirts (”and I’m okay”
).
Seeing two very normal looking women in such a high profile relationship can only be good for the normalization of being gay and female.
