Iron Man writers to pen new Highlander movie

One of my favorite movies from the 80,s has to be Highlander, but sadly the producers decided to make a few more movies, and the result was not that great I have to say. Well we have news Highlander is about to get another chance at the Box Office, don’t panic though as Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, who are the writers from the recent Box Office success Iron Man as well as the upcoming Punisher: War Zone are to pen the script. The first Highlander was successful, but the other movies as well as the TV spin-off were a pile of rubbish, but you would have to wonder how a new Highlander movie would fail with these two writers behind the story.
When you start to think back about the story it was a little strange, a few blokes running around the place trying to chop each others head off, in order to capture their life force. Although it sounded weird, it was something that worked, well once anyway. How can you go wrong, starting a movie off in the Scottish Highlands set in the 16th century, and then moving to present day. The main character was played by Christopher Lambert, ok we know that it was a strange casting, but acting alongside Sean Connery, it just seemed to work.
So if a new Highlander movie gets the green light, which actor would be perfect for the lead role, if Mel Gibson was a little younger then I would go for him, man he was awesome in Braveheart, but the safe money has to be Brad Pitt.

if the is to be another highlander and i hope there is because i have all the movies and the complete series on dvd then there is only one person i would probly pay to see Adrien paul is the only true highlander besides Christopher Lambert
I would have to agree with Samuel. The OP is dead wrong in his comments that the original movie was the only good part. I think the whole series of movies and the tv series are all entertaining. At this point with the story, I think for them to make a big budget movie, they have to cast Adrian Paul. It just would not work with anyone else.
It would be like making the new Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford.
Highlander has a great following and a little research would have proven that to the so called journalist who wrote this.
There are numerous groups on Yahoo and others that have numerous fans as well as the individuals from the show that have a huge fan base mostly from the series.
Also i hate to be so negative here as i am a huge highlander fan, My wife and myself watch the series still to this day on DVD, but as being a fan i cant see Adrian playing Conner. The only way to bring back Adrian in to this would be to relaunch the series.
A new conner is a must as i dont believe that Mr. Lambert could pull off the younger look. But Adrian could pull off reprising his role as Duncan. What About Ramirez? Who could pull some sean connery out of there hat.
All in all i will watch it if/when they make it.

if another highlander movie is made please don’t let it be set after the source it was like highlander 2 all over again, if it is a remake of highlander 1 then why not get a young scottish actor for connor and have mr lambert play ramirez.
If a new Highlander movie is done how about Collin Ferrel or Gerard Butlers as Conner and Christopher Lembert as Ramirez or Patrick Steward.
the first movies were good and so was end game. the series was best. the source was the worst part of the whole franshise it really ticked me. but making a new movie without with out adrian paul would be crap. they need to set it after endgame and not make it a remake of highlander1. i prefer to think that the source didn’t happen.

I love the first movie and End Game was great cause it ties my fav series and conner plus they actors could do and stay stuff the tv show would not do. like joe saying ( you look like shit) i almost choked on my soda it was so funny. it has to be after End game and Has to stay Adrian Paul. what a about a methos Series and also i thought that Adrian Paul should have played the james bond part of these last movies. but hey I am just one person.
I am 33 and consider myself a die hard Highlander fan. I own all the movies, the entire series on DVD and even the one season of Raven. I also own Duncan’s katana. I was surprised and pleased to recently find the fan site HighlanderWorldWide. To my great pleasure, surprise and some amusement they STILL have annual CONVENTIONS!!! The series ended in 1998 and ten years later there’s still a large following. It’s pretty amazing and i must say a great thing. Although i don’t consider myself a geek i must say that i am a geek for highlander. I was married just before i deployed to Iraq and my wife would put in highlander the series dvd’s every night to fall asleep to while i was gone. I got shot a couple times in Baghdad on Christmas day 2005 and i watched alot of Highlander when i was recovering at home. We still watch it alot because it’s ten times more fun than anything else on T.V. nowadays. I suppose i wouldn’t mind seeing Adrian reprising his role for a new remake but i think the point here is that they want to totally retool and go with an original remake. That being said, they might even take liberties with some of the myth… who knows. I just know Highlander is so much more than chopping heads off. It’s about the opportunity some have to live for long periods of time as immortals. That offers the chance to make a very rich movie. I don’t think Highlander will ever realize it’s full potential and that is a shame but i hope we see a great attempt at it. I have serious doubts however, as Hollywood likes to slap crap together and the story always suffers. I could write a thesis paper on Highlander but i’ll stop here. I’m just SO very tired of getting my hopes up for movies only to be severely dissapointed when they finally come out. I will agree with one of the previous writers that i think Adrian Paul could have made a great James Bond. I was in Special Operations for several years and i think he could have made a good Bond. One has to wonder if he ever tried out for the role.
rangerMatt just an FYI Adrian Paul was on the short list to be the new Bond. Personally Paul would have been great as the new Bond, he could pull off the action scenes easily, and he has the smoothness that Craig lacks…. not mention Paul as Bond could have had a sword fight or two….Bond with a sword how awesome would that be.
That said a new Highlander films needs a good everyday actor/star to make it work and god will be succesful with that said my vote is for Ewan McGregor, I think he could pull off Connor, but they new to do some sort of baton pass with Paul as Lambert did for the series.

Okay. First off the 1st highlander was awesome. So great in fact that we like the rest of the highlander movies even though we know deep down that they kinda sucked…yea. So then comes in Adrian Paul in the series…Amazing.. i thought! How he acts all cool when he fights others with his smart ass comments, his witty humor he dishes out at times..and the long hair was all dope. I pretty much think they screwed up with The Source, but they have so much potential for a good story with GREAT fight scenes and scenery That SOMEONE must Get it Right! I think Iron Man writers can definately pull it off, and as long as Adrian Paul is in it with his long hair we will be all good. Also, other highlanders that he fights can also be done to be great villians using famous actors. That will push Adrian Pauls popularity to the top when he has scenes where he cuts their heads off. If they dont use him because he is getting old…then they definately need a new face with a thick scottish accent.
Come on guys i love Lambert in the first highlander…but their is something B actor about him. I think its his ..umm acting…but still highlander 1 is the Matrix of the 80’s. Two of my all time favorite movies. rangerMatt….your a bigger dork than i am! haha. Did you guys hear about the Video Game that came out?????? This highlander is ofcourse from scotland..and is either 2000 or 1000 years old with a very thick accent. It looks awesome..and if its not..either way…im buying it today! okay okay..im going to rent it on gamefly first. Then their is the cartoon series…they made it a little too ninja turtly corny ish….when they should have gone with a more serious cartoon robotec style ya know….. Then after like 10 years we will have highlander vs vampires and such….that would be dope as well but pretty hard to pull off. Say hi to your momma for me
I would like to suggest Jet Li as a main for the new movie,base it in asia somewhere and give the whole story a brand new feel to it,maybe have a few more martial artists such as Tony Jaa (the protector) then climax it with an army of immortals or something…

Well i know that if it gets made, they probably wont use the old actors. I too disagree, all the movies and series was good. Methos should definatly be played by Liam Neeson. he’s got that “i’ve been around for a while kind of swagger.
McCloud should be Arnold Schwarzenegger, lol just kidding. In all honesty i would have loved for Heath ledger to play the part of McCloud but unfortunatly….
however, I think Aaron heckart would make a reasonably good McCloud VISUALLY, acting wise i dont think so.
I dont really mind, as long as they dont usual christian bail(really bad action hero voice), zack efron, or the guy from that terrible, terrible dragonball live action movie, i will be somewhat satisfied
Never mind who will play who! Do you think they will try a new soundtrak Queen has always been to me the one and only one group that has the Highlander franchise emotions set to music.
One name come to mind who should play Connor McCloud and that is Karl Urban.
If no one has yet watched Pathfinder then it’s a must see movie in which Karl Urban fights off Vikings wheeling a sword, much like the action in Highlander.
