If you are a fan of American Idol, then you have a new winner as David Cook wins in 2008, which came as a surprise to both Davis Archuleta and the judges. 25-year-old Cook from Blue Springs, Missouri, took the crown as the winner of American Idol season 7 on Wednesday, and as we said many were shocked, even the 7,000 strong audience who packed into the Nokia Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. Judges Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell had all but handed the win to David Archuleta, so were genuinely shocked when the 17-year-old hopeful lost out.
However you have to remember that, at this part of the show it is never up to the judges, many believe that it was the maturity of Cook and his rocker vibe that won out on the night. You do have to wonder if the viewers decided to get their own back on how much they favored David Archuleta, you should always know, do not upset the voters. In total there had been 97 million votes, that is 23 million more than has ever been recorded for the show. Cook won American Idol 2008 by 565 to Archuleta’s 44% that equates to 12 million votes.
I loved watching the face of Ryan Seacrest when he read out the results, and announced Cook as the winner, you could see the shock on his face. Once Cook learned that he was the season 7 winner, he just smiled and put his arm around Archuleta and gave the young guy a squeeze to console him. After looking back over season 7, you have to ask yourself how come Cook won. Well Cook did go for a range of different song choices, such as Collective Soul as well as Aerosmith and U2, but Archuleta seemed to stay in his comfort zone by singing ballads from artists such as, Elton John, John Lennon and Phil Collins.

Will David Cook be a good winner, or did David Archuleta deserve to win?
david cook has always been my bet. i think he deserves to win. Archuleta is not that bad though. he’s charming and very good. he’s still young. he’s got a lot waiting in line for him.

I love David Cook! It’s not surprising that he won American Idol. He is such an amazing performer.
Go David!

Talent wise I feel David Archuleta should have won, he by far has the better voice.
Comment by Jamie Ciuffo — May 22, 2008 @ 6:38 am
I was shocked by the result. I really love young David A. I think he should be the winner. It could be the comments from Simon back fired on David A. People voted for David C because of sympathy.
Comment by linda k. — May 22, 2008 @ 6:48 am
Why are people so surprised that David Cook is the winner. Although I must admit that Archuletta has a wonderful voice, he always sounds the same. With Cook there was always this element of surprise and diversity. Archuletta should have won an Idol for teens, but David Cook is the one for the working class, therefore is he a more mature and sellable product. And therefore no surprise for being the winner of Idols 2008. Good luck David C, I thought you deserve every second for this, you have worked hard for this success and every inch of you shows the professional that you are. Just keep your heart and head where it belongs and you will be successful. God bless!

The best man won. David Cook absolutely deserved to win the American Idol title. He has shown integrity, charm and maturity.
David Archuletta is also a winner! Once you get to the last 2, I truly believe you have 2 winners but the best man won!!!!!
Congratulations David, well done - you have a long road ahead of you as does young David.
Comment by Lina — May 22, 2008 @ 6:56 am
David Archuleta is an amazing artist who will go places in his life. This is far from the end and although he didn’t win, he will always be the best. David is my American Idol. To any of you who doubt him, go onto iTunes, he has released two singles featuring him with Merrick Christensen. I love Archie and personally think he should have won and I’m sure that he will sell more albums than David Cook. Show Archie your love by buying all of his songs and videos before midnight, they’ll be gone tomorrow.

Well done David Cook - England have been rootin’ for you. Be sure not to let us down and consider some tour dates - you have real talent and deserved to win. I am so happy for you xxx
Comment by Maria - England — May 22, 2008 @ 7:07 am
I think the voters were a bit peeved and fed up with the antics of Archuleta Senior; there were news report that he was asked not to go back stage or try to coax his son and so forth. People don’t like that type of ‘undue influence’. Invariably he did harm to his son by trying to interfere in the competition & drove the voters to cast their ‘protest’ votes to his son’s competitor. Some people dont know how to “behave”! What a shame.
Comment by Faqi — May 22, 2008 @ 7:19 am
In my opinion I’m thrilled that America made the right choice. David A is very very good and will be very successful as the American Idol runner-up. However David Cook has the maturity, the presence, and even more importantly the voice that will capture millions. Personally I could listen to him sing all day long. I’m so happy you guys out there made the right call !

I’m thrilled that David Cooke won over David Archuleta because I felt that Archuleta was too immature to handle stardom.

david effie archuleta should have won…
i heart him…
Comment by Mark — May 22, 2008 @ 7:53 am
It really STINKS that the BEST singer lost, Cook’s voice has no range at all compared to Archuleta’s and Cook is like every mediocre rocker out there and has no distinct sound of his own. American Idol is not a singing contest anymore, all it is, is a popularity contest and the gals that wish they could have a bit of Cook is what voted him in, not his talent. A gal even said it, on Idol extra today, before the final, that she wasn’t voting for the talent but for the “hot” one. Well gee… Imagine, a BARTENDER for American idol! What a roll model! Archuleta was pure inside and out and pure talent, could you even imagine David Cook singing acapella like Archuleta did…NOT!

I am so glad that David won. He was a star as far as our house was concerned from day 1. Hands down for us he was our Idol choice. His age, his voice, his fantastic performences were always heartfelt and well chosen in our opinion.
He has earned his chance by hard work and his great voice.
Can’t wait to buy his new cd from Idol as well as his own Analog Heart he recorded before the show started.
Way to show the judges they are 3 in number compared to many millions of fans who backed the right David. Egg on their faces looks good. lol
Kudos to you David Cook. You were my fav to win from the first show.
congrats
Comment by Karen C — May 22, 2008 @ 8:09 am
Cook may have won, but like all American Idols, ( with the exeption of Kelly clarkson), its the runner up that will actually sell any CD’s and be the famous one. In the end, Cook is good but his voice doesnt hold a candle to Archuleta and as far as I am concerned, everything that Cook sings has been done!!! Enjoy your fame now, good job, but I am sorry to ruin your enjoyment, but if you and Archuleta put out a CD at the same time, which I am sure one day you will, the Billboards wont lie, and I am sorry to say, but your name wont be at #1 and Archuleta’s will; and I honestly could care less who won!! Its the voters who gave you the win now, but its the real people who spend their money on a CD or a song that really matter and all I ever hear anywhere is Archuleta’s name not yours.
Comment by Karla Henrichon — May 22, 2008 @ 8:15 am
Okay, so, here’s the deal. I’m a washed up 37 year old professional musician who makes a portion of his living from his vocals. I have to say that I chose Archeleta from day one! Here’s why…. Cook, although he was quite diverse in his song choice, was inconsistant, vocally. He was at times pitchy - at times predictable at trying to be “original”. The truth is you could always expect him to start his song nice and soft/easty and grow into a “big ending… EVERY SONG!! No surprise.
Archeleta was absolutely, 100% stylicticly and vocally. I don’t recall one flat note the entire season! Randy had it so right! This kid can sing anything!!!!!!!! At 17, he has a huge career (provided his DAD keeps his distance)!
I don’t agree with the results, but have to say that for the first time in several seasons, America got it right. It came down to the two best vocalist! Normally, there are a few upsets. Great vocalist leaving before there time…….
I think David Cook is an exeptional “rocker”. He is incredible commercially and will do very well. …another Daugtry. Archeleta, however, is more of a cross-over artist. He is quite young and has an extremely mature voice. He has quite career ahead of him…
The results may have actually been in Archeleta’s favor, though he did not win. Look at Daughtry… I don’t remember him making it into the top 4, though he is one of the top selling artist, next to Carrie. I think the producer and Promoter will determine the successes of these two incredible artists.
I’m a big fan of them both!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“If” American Idol were a singing contest, Archuleta would have won hands down without a doubt. Unfortunately for him its not and he didn’t.
At some point this contest turned into a popularity contest and to put it bluntly, who ever is the “hottest” will win. I do respect the fact that David Cook was a little more diversified in his song choices while young Archuleta did what I thought he would do, which is stick in his safety zone of slow Balads. I still think Archulta deserved to win but I don’t think he is even close to being as marketable as Cook.
Comment by chris fullington — May 22, 2008 @ 8:43 am
I am amazed at America and how they voted. The better performer David A lost. I hope this voting pattern will not repeat again even in the elections. It was so clear that David A outshined David C and yet he lost. Poor David A but I am sure he will sell more records than David C. That will show set record straight. Perhaps we need to review the voting rights and judges have a say.
Comment by Julie — May 22, 2008 @ 9:33 am
Well i’m so glad David Cook won. 1st i think he showed more diversity throughout the show. He tried different sounds and went for it. Arcguleta on the other hand while he is a good singer, have always keot it slow and safe. I have never seen him put a hard spin on his songs. I never understodd what all the hype was with him from the beginning. I think it was due partly because of his young age the judges felt he had an older sould persay..but i never got a strong vibe from him. I think America got it correct..i think if it was about popularity Archuleta would have won, but i think alot of people felt the same way, i felt Cook was more versatile and tried different things and ranges and he will have more sucess at selling records. America didn’t get it wrong..not at all. The judges i guess realized its not about what they say at this point of the show but what us as viewers see.

David Cook!! Im not shocked with the result as i can predict from the beginning that David Cook will win this season cause He has it ALL!! Talents, Originality, Looks, Personality, Superb vocal assortments!! ANd yes, he GOT IT ALL!!
However, i cannot deny David A’s superb vocal. He’s young and surely got Good future in music industry. Both are good but David C surely outweigh David A!!
Congrats to Both Incredible 2 winners in viewers’ heart!!
Malaysia loves you!

im so happy and shocked by the win. i LOVE David Cook.david archuleta does have a good voice though. i thought that david A. was going 2 win because of all of the crazy teen girls voteing so many times. david A. is to young and ugly to win. what many people dont understand is that ther’re judging both of them on how good a pop singer they are. David cook sings his style of music better than david A sings david A’s style of music.
Archuleta kinda sounds like anchulata.

I am so so chuffed that DC won. I’ve been following his progress from England and was gutted I couldn’t vote. DC is the full package and ready to take ‘THE WORLD’ by storm (Please make sure UK isn’t forgotten) where as whilst DA had a great voice and appealed to the teenies, he isn’t ready yet (he always went to pieces when asked a question)
DC as wowed us each week, I always looked forward to the show thinking what will DC do this week? This is the only AI where I have tuned in every week and I don’t know what I’ll do without my weekly DC…..lets hope he gets some songs (and some lovely videos!) out soon xxxxxx

I am thrilled to bits that David Cook won. He had the star quality from the moment he opened his mouth and sung Hello. Each week he surprised and the true sign of an artist is when he chose to sing a completely new song rather than re-do one - as he said ‘progression’! I for one am excited about his debut album. He already has an international fanbase so i think he’ll do great. Only problem is uk itunes don’t sell the songs he sung on AI so i’m stumped!
Comment by Jenny — May 22, 2008 @ 2:10 pm
Both David’s were awesome, but, hands down, David A. should have won. He didn’t hit a bad note during the whole season. Just as much as people accuse David A. of staying in his “comfort zone” and sounding the same, the same goes for David C. No matter what David C. sung, he had that same raspy, rocker sound. But when you can take on big songs like John Lennon and sound as outstanding as David A. did - hands down - he should have won. Even David C. knows it. He got the sympathy vote because Simon kept slamming him and David A. lost because of it. Why Simon did that? Who knows because David C. did great! They both are extremely talented and if they could have both won, I’d be okay with that. However, since there had to be a winner, David A. really should have won and deep down everyone knows it.
Comment by Vonnie — May 22, 2008 @ 2:27 pm
I don’t why everyone keeps saying that the judges were for Archuleta, Simon was on Leno the night before the vote and on Ellen the day of the vote was slamming David A. He wanted Cook and even said that is the music he would buy. Also I feel bad that everyone bought into the whole dad story. Idol started that mess, his dad is not like that I know them, concerned about his son yes, but this whole thing has been what David wanted and his dad and family have just supported him, sorry folks you are wrong on that one. As far as young and handling pressure look what DA has been through, school everyday and the whole story of dad, that hurts and it hurts his whole family but people keep repeating it and calling them names. Both of these young men are very gifted and both will have great careers in spite of the juges. Good luck to both and you both did a fantastic job.
Comment by Sue — May 22, 2008 @ 2:36 pm
david cook defiently deserved to win…. Although he was good, David A isn’t mature enough to handle the stress of being “American Idol”. I am very happy with the results. and am defiently going to buy Davids cook’s first album!! HES FINE

anyone who thinks that David Cook shouldnt have won.. needs to go watch the re-runs that i’m sure will be coming on.. because David A sounds and looks like a 13 year old boy who hasnt hit puberty yet. Us girls wanna look at a real man on stage. GO DAVID COOK!!!

Much as I wanted David A to win I was starting to wonder if it would not all be a little too much for him. He was so overwhelmed every time the judges gave him a positive critic. Also he always had a low profile in group activities. David C on the other hand had the all round package and looked the the winner in all his performances in the final presentation. I was touched by the way he included David A as much as possible during the final song. The Davids have a great future and I love them both.

i liked both Davids all the way. It was not a surprise since either one was a winner to me. Do you really think that who every came in 2nd would not succeed after this? Both will succeed. By far the best finals for AI. If you are truly a fan of either of these two Davids, you will support them when they launch their albums in the coming year and years to come.

There was a different “man”, the eldest one in this entire season that I was aiming for the win, but, since we were left with David Archuleta and David Cook….
David Cook wins for me, hands down, no if ands or buts about it.
I am a rocker at heart and Cook is great as one.
Archuleta was an awesome young singer without a doubt. This was in fact a really hard fight to the finish and I am very happy the Cook took the win!
Archuleta will not be left in the dark I am sure of this. Someone else will pick him up and give him a singing contract/record deal, I am sure. Just as so many other 2nd placers, third placers, and forth placers have in the past!
Once Michael Johns was voted off, David Cook had my vote the remaining of the season! I hope to see Michael Johns once again sometime really soon!

I’m happy for David Cook and also for David A. (David A. has so much exposure from the show I am sure we will hear from him later).
David Cook has “it” and I know will do great things with his career. I only hope he can stay humble and honest to his roots and not let success eat tear him apart.
TO DAVID COOK: Keep your faith alive and you will be fine!

i seriously think that david A should have won. he has the talent, and the looks to be the winner of american idol. he was so awsome. everyone , exept my science teacher, who is awsome, thought that david A. should have won. but hey david cook won. there is still a chance. GO DAVID A.!!!!!:)
Comment by jacqueline — May 22, 2008 @ 11:44 pm
The right man won!! Archuleta sucked at his constant ballads and had some of the wierdest facial expressions I have ever seen!! I think America didn’t want to mess up like they did when they voted off the rocker Chris Daughtry and voted for that old Taylor Hicks or whatever his name was. Did that guy ever even make an album? Cook brought home the well deserved title cuz he has the sexiest voice and the looks to go with it. Those of you that like Archuleta, don’t worry, American Idol will produce an album of his i’m sure but you can bet I will buying Cook’s album!!
Comment by Jillayne — May 23, 2008 @ 2:42 am
i was stunned of how the finale ended, but then again i kinda seen it coming. referring to the past AI seasons the best talent doesn’t always win. archie in my opinion is beyond great with or without an idol title on his name. for someone as talented as him beyond his age he will go far and become a great performer who will produce meaningful songs. he’s talent will be used to change lives since it’s a blessing handed to him, i’ll be anticipating for his album and once it hits record bars i’ll be one of the first to buy and support him. archie’s a beautiful person inside and out, keep his humility and in the end he’ll be lifted. God bless
Comment by elle — May 23, 2008 @ 2:46 am
I liked both David’s throughout. But David Cook deserved the win. He made fearless, original choices throughout and genuinely brought something different to the show. His versions of Billy Jean and Always Be My Baby were brilliant.
Comment by lucy — May 23, 2008 @ 11:14 am
I agree that COOK was the right winner, perhaps not on the night but throughout the series YES< YES & YES Again!!! He took the most risks throughout the competition, the most original twists to songs, so shows more potential. Archie is a good singer who will have a career but he has years to develop that talent too. He appeals to young girls, MUMS etc and for me that is what makes COOK different and the better singer!
Also USA REMEMBER when Simon says things against someone it quite often makes the public vote for that person more! This happens in the UK too!!!
Good luck COOK you deserve it, you stayed true to yourself thru the whole thing…go rock em.
Comment by Bernie Ainsley — May 23, 2008 @ 3:25 pm
I was really devastated. David Archuleta should have won, because of his wonderful voice. For his age he sung beautifully and deserved the laurel. Anyway his talent will not get wasted as I think his albums will make it really big even without the crown provided someone gives him a break right now.All of us from India support Archuleta and wish him all the best for his future!
Comment by Nalini — May 23, 2008 @ 3:29 pm
David A Was Robbed! Simon should be ashamed of that awful apology - staged and abhorent..and AI will never be same for millions of Americans. There, I said it. Cook better than Archuleta? In what universe? Watching the whole season (great piece!) one would know that David A was the best singer over all. How many times has Simon and Randy said, “Dude, it’s a singing competition?” “This is not a popularity show!!” Aha..well we thought that too..
Good news, David A is releasing his debut CD this summer..David Cook..ahhh, we wait..So I have to wonder if David A won by losing? I think he just may have..

i am so shocked that DAVID COOK won the show of 2008, i had always set my heart for David Archuleta to win.
i am so upset about this but i think David Cook AND David Archuleta have a huge career a head of them both, they both are great singers and they both have a strong ora about them both, you can tell they are both generally really nice people and i hope the best for both, David Cook and David Archuleta.
I really do think both are great singers and i also think david archuleta still has a future for singing and when he releases his own songs i’ll be buying the cd’s and also downloading it on my mp3 player !!!!

I would just like to say for all those doubters check out all the download charts - David Cook occupies the top spots in most of them. I’m sure DA will have a career and his fans will support him but how can you argue with 12 million votes?!
Comment by Jenny — May 24, 2008 @ 2:17 pm
thank god it’s over and the right David won. D.A. fans made one big mistake - the more they tried to push their little boy, the more it put people off. D.A. is a crooner - if you want that (and it can be great), buy Frank Sinatra or even Robbie Williams but not a pre-buscent boy who doesn’t even understand the lyrics he sings most of the time. The worst for me was ‘Imagine’ - the phrasing was so awful….the left-out lyrics……I wish you all the best, David C - hope you write your own songs, too. and don’t let the bastards grind you down even if they are from the music-industry.
Comment by hippycat — May 24, 2008 @ 3:16 pm
Im glad David cook won, it seemed like simon cowell and the other judges wanted the younger David to win? he was very good but he did not have the depth of soul that David cook had, he was like a good karioki singer, both of them were lucky some of the Ladies did not make it through as I was sure that a couple of the ladies were going to be finalists,? good luck to all the contestants keep going for your dreams , (ya bunch of losers) go back to ya day jobs, ( just kidding.)
Comment by vernon mussington uk — May 24, 2008 @ 8:20 pm
judges always want the younger singer to win - easier to mould (and get rid of once the ‘child’ (and, please, be honest D.A. is maybe 17 but looks at best like 15) has run its course. hence the future lowering of the age to 14. gives the industry more throw-away cash-cows. the way the judges pushed D.A. as the winner was disgraceful and unfair and simply pathetic. My favourite was Carly but I am very happy with D.C. as the winner.
Comment by hippycat — May 25, 2008 @ 11:43 am
From the time I saw young David sing I thought he would be the winner and it was a shock to find out that he was the runner up.
I live in New Zealand and we are still watching the idol show and do not know the winner yet but I was just watching an american talk back show (Eillen)and Simon was a guest and he WHEN HE WAS ASKED WHO THE WINNER WOULD BE HE SAID that David A would not win so I just had to look up on the web to see who the winner was.
Once again I think David A was cheated but I still think that he will go along way if he keeps singing.
Good luck David A.
(I will still watch the programme every Friday and Saturday nights though till the winner is announced.)

There isn’t any reason David C should have won, his voice is generic and didn’t come close to David A. awesome sound. I think David C must’ve had some master txters holding on all 4 hrs.

David cook has rhythm and originality and a true believable personality. Sure David Archuleta is a great singer, but is voice tone and style is repetitious. David Cook is unpredictable and that’s what America likes for a true “American Idol”

whats wrong with all you people supporting david cook? he is sort of good but still not as good as david archuleta. cook sang sooo badly during the finale.
DAVID ARCHULETA SHOULD HAVE WON!
Comment by random — May 29, 2008 @ 1:49 pm
American Idol, regardless of what anyone tries to say to the contrary, isn’t just a singing competition. It is a contest to find a star who is capable of selling millions of albums.
If David Archuleta was supposed to be the winner, why didn’t he outsell David Cook on itunes? Clay Aiken outsold Ruben Studdard and Chris Daughtry outsold Taylor Hicks immediately after their respective seasons ended. These two were the only ones who would go on to outsell their opponent in the real world when their albums were released as well. So, what is the excuse?
If you enjoy David Archuleta, support him by purchasing his music and following his career. But don’t try to take anything away from David Cook, who already has fans willing and able to support him.

As the weeks have gone by I have come to feel that David A is a good performer, but that David Cook week by week has showed more and more a greater versatility in changing songs and taking risks. He is a real entertainer. In NZ tonight we watched the show when it was down to the last three. Frankly it was starting to feel so drawn out that I decided to jump on the internet and see who won. I’m thrilled it was David Cook. We don’t get to vote down here, but as the Americans would say “the result is right on the money” as far as I’m concerned.
If David Cook wasn’t expecting to be the winner, then I’m sure it must have been an even sweeter victory. Bring on the David Cook album. I’ll be listening out for his music on the airwaves.

If it’s strictly talent competition, talent for me means voice quality, creativity, versatility and musicality. My evaluation would come up with the following ranking:
1. David Cook
2. Michael
3. Carly
4. Syesha
5. David Archuletta
6. Ramiele
7. Chequizie
8. Jason
9. Cristy Lee
10. David H.
11. Amanda
12. Brooke
If it’s a beauty contest, ranking would be:
1. Jason
2. Michael
3. Carly
4. Ramiele
5. Cristy Lee
6. Syesha
7. Brooke
8. Chequizie
9. Amanda
10. David Cook
11. David Archuletta
12. David Hernandez

Yes, America got it damm right! Though this is old news and it’s a beaten to death old topic; however, I feel I have to put in my two cents re “Archuleta should have won…because he’s better….” please………get real—the competion is over–America decided.
Billboard Top 100 announced that David Cook had 11 songs on the charts at one time in the top 100. The record was 14–by the Beatles in the 60s. David Archuleta had 3 songs at one time only.
Secondly David Cook had over 943,000 digital downloads credited to him with David Archuleta having around 324,000 digital downloads. So if Archuleta was so good and more deserving and more talented-why weren’t people buying his stuff? Because tweens don’t have a credit card to buy stuff off of iTunes and kids being kids–they would “copy” or rip it off somewhere for free. However, these musican’s don’t benefit much if peopole don’t buy their songs and or can’t afford those concert tickets. Sales and selling out on tours mean everything. Lack of radio play is also a sure killer too. Popular radio stations play rock and pop. Ballad songs are played more in the “adult contemporary” radio stations. I remember that “my boo….” song as Archuleta’s shot at being cool and doing pop and trying to work the stage which didn’t go off very well. Needs work–lots of work.
Mainstream music lovers who buy CDs or download songs clearly preferred Cook’s music as indicated by Billboard. In addition, his fan age demographics are between the ages of 10 to 70+ and are both male and female. Adult males would listen to Cook’s rock music because he’s cool and an adult. David Archuleta’s fanbase is clearly more in the female gender, of tweens and grandmas.
David Archuleta kept in his comfort zone singing mainly ballad after ballad. It’s what he trained for for years having studied American Idol since Season 1 and felt that this would give him the win as it worked for others in the past.
In retrospect, since the show has been going on for quite some time, viewership is now more of women with a “mean” age of 42 per the polls out there. These woman were awaken by Cook. He got the “cougar” vote. Cougars like rock–they were brought up on it.
In general we were tired of the same-old-same-old. We didn’t want another diva, we didn’t want country, we didn’t want “broadway” wannabees, we didn’t want or care about 16-17 Pop (we have no interest in Disney type music or Jonas Brotheres or Hannah Montana or sweet sugary type of music or people who do that type of music) nor R&B. If we wanted a singer who’s talent is mainly singing ballads–well though I am not a Clay Aiken fan, he seems to have that market and say what you say–Clay would blow Archuleta out of the water and even Clay didn’t win.
Bottom line–we miss ROCK. Ah–the good old days of Bon Jovi, Rolling Stones, etc., etc. We miss good rock and love to go to a great rock concert. Those who watched Season 5 remembered the rocker who didn’t win and the voters opted for a “goofy, fun, but very karaoke guy Taylor Hicks. We didn’t forget that–not by a long shot.
I would never be compelled to go to an Archuletta concert where I would have to endure the company of giggling little girls, nor be surrounded by Moms who also think he’s hot (and they do–that’s just disgusting–the kid looks 13 at most). His fans will say he’s fantastic–mainstream thought he was boring.
Yes, the first time TPTB saw a sign in the audience “Cougars For Cook” that was their first indication that Cook would win, not because he has the “it” factor–it’s because we outnumbered Archuleta’s fanbase. Also Cook’s iTunes sales outnumbered Archuleta’s 3 to 1 and consequently Cook won by a 12 million margin. His lines were jammed solid until the last second. I hardly got any votes in in 4 hours.
I feel bad for next season’s contestants–Cook has changed American Idol, set higher standards. People will except a lot more from those contestants and I think Cook has probably saved the show. Vocals and doing straight covers will just not be enough!

Well said Ronnie!!!! I so agree with everything that you have just pointly expressed!!!
I’ve been a Cook fan from day one and I think he has set the standards pretty darn high for next season!! He is by far the best contestant that America has ever witnessed on American Idol!! And I bet anything that his first debut albulm will sell more than any past idols’!!
Don’t get me wrong Archie fans….Archie does have strong vocals but he does not stand a chance against Cook! Sure, Archie sang real good in the finale but I don’t think he out-sang Cook at all!! Even Simon apologized to Cook after realizing that he was wrong for stating Archie as the winner! Cook out performed him throughout the whole season…I mean the WHOLE season!! Cook had more memorable performances, more stage presence, and more connection with the audiences. Cook’s voice has a way wider range…..I mean seriously, I don’t think Archie can hit the high notes that Cook has hit. I can recall a comment Simon made early in the season when Cook sang “Eleanor Rigby”, Simon said to Cook that if the show was to remain a talent competition instead of a popularity contest, then Cook would be the one to win it! Don’t believe me, look it up on youtube. Niel Diamond even said that Cook’s voice gave him chills….and Dolly Parton said that Cook’s voice was very beautiful….and Mariah Carey said that Cook’s voice was very hunting!! Week after week, Cook delivered amazing and outstanding performances!! That’s why he is the American Idol and I’m so thrilled that America voted!!
Itune downloads also proves who the winner really is and who will be selling more albums…..that would be David Cook!!
