Mike Myers movie The Love Guru: should Hindu groups oppose the film

A number of Hindu groups have been opposed to the Mike Myers movie The Love Guru, and have asked for the Hollywood movie to be banned, but a Hindu reform organization has opposed this saying that a ban on the film is going too far. Gautham Rao from the Hindu Organization has said “Hindus have a remarkable history of freedom of thought and expression. Unfortunately, this is being eroded these days by hypersensitive and misguided chauvinistic pressure groups, perhaps taking their cue from more chauvinistic traditions.”

The group has also said that there are a number of groups in the US who wish to protest against The Love Guru, but they believe that is a step too far. They also said Hindus should set a spiritual example for others by combating social ills and discrimination.” The main protests over the Mike Myers movie has been spearheaded by Rajan Zed, who is a Hindu leader based in Reno, Nevada, he has accused the movie of lampooning Hinduism.

Mike Myers movie The Love Guru: should Hindu groups oppose the film

The problem is, people do read too much in to movies, it is just meant as light hearted fun, and is not meant to undermine any such faith. There have been a number of movies that poke fun out of Christianity, but no one has protested over this. Please I do urge people just to take this as a fun movie and nothing else; Mike Myers would never risk his career to poke fun at a faith like Hinduism.

I am a practising hindu yet I don’t oppose Love Guru evenif it is lampooning the hindu faith. I would rather take a light laugh at it rather than taking it any seriously. One of the key reasons I am bound to my faith is that it is open to take criticism and humor. There are no laws in scriptures which prevent others from criticizing or making fun of them.

Unfortunately these so called hindu groups seem to be taking it seriously and getting inspired by islamic groups in terms of being intolerent.

With having a Guru called such-a-big-knoba..
surely it is offending! Why dont you let your mother and sister star in this film , if you think Hinduism is supposed to be ridiculed to such an extent. I challenge you to imagine your mother in this way..
surely you cannot!!! so how can Hindus tolerate their mother being branded around in such dispicable manner.

I liked Mike Myers in his previous flicks, back from the days of Wayne’s World. I just hope his intentions are good for this movie.

Else he will burn in the holy hindu flower pot for eternity and die like a squirrel which became a road kill on a National Highway for which no one cares and people just avoid their cars from it so that their wheels don’t get blood marks of a squished squirrel.

    Love, piece, chicken :D
