A number of Hindu groups have been opposed to the Mike Myers movie The Love Guru, and have asked for the Hollywood movie to be banned, but a Hindu reform organization has opposed this saying that a ban on the film is going too far. Gautham Rao from the Hindu Organization has said “Hindus have a remarkable history of freedom of thought and expression. Unfortunately, this is being eroded these days by hypersensitive and misguided chauvinistic pressure groups, perhaps taking their cue from more chauvinistic traditions.”
The group has also said that there are a number of groups in the US who wish to protest against The Love Guru, but they believe that is a step too far. They also said Hindus should set a spiritual example for others by combating social ills and discrimination.” The main protests over the Mike Myers movie has been spearheaded by Rajan Zed, who is a Hindu leader based in Reno, Nevada, he has accused the movie of lampooning Hinduism.
The problem is, people do read too much in to movies, it is just meant as light hearted fun, and is not meant to undermine any such faith. There have been a number of movies that poke fun out of Christianity, but no one has protested over this. Please I do urge people just to take this as a fun movie and nothing else; Mike Myers would never risk his career to poke fun at a faith like Hinduism.
