Last summer, the biggest blockbuster was Michael Bay’s Transformers, and just a few short months later the movie was released on HD DVD. However; this came as a complete shock to director Bay as he preferred the Blu-ray format, but studio bosses were backing the HD DVD format which is now dead and buried.
Well now I would love to see the look on Michael Bay’s face as seibertron reports that there is to be a two disc special edition of Transformers which will be released on September 2. There is no details as to what the special features will be on the Blu-ray version, and if it will be any different to the HD DVD version. I am sure that the Blu-ray version of Transformers will sell by the bucket load, as it stars the hottest young property in Hollywood at the moment, Shia LaBeouf, who is having great success with his new movie Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. However; many young guys will be purchasing the movie on the new format, just to be able to watch Megan Fox.
I will be ordering my copy as soon as possible, I did not purchase Transformers on any format as I was holding out in the hope of a Blu-ray release, looks like my waiting has paid off, and I have not wasted money getting an inferior format.
“I have not wasted money getting an inferior format”
Michael Bay will have a rude awakening at what an idiot he is when he see’s the Transformers movie with half the features as the “inferior” HD DVD version. Transformers of HD DVD has great success with downloadable content through the mandatory ethernet port. Only the highest end Blu Ray 2.0 players offer this functionality and there is not a single Blu ray disc out that has been able to do this.
I’m sure all the extra content on Blu Ray will be what you had to download on HD DVD. More convient i suppose, but not really ground breaking. The reason Blu Ray is having trouble right now is it doesn’t differentiate itself from DVD. I can see why when it can’t do with Transformers what HD DVD did a year ago.

Except, my dear Eric, that Blu Rays with Bonus view and BD Live already exist (Saw IV, Walk Hard, AVP:R, etc.).
Now you talk as if you already know there will be “half the features”. That is idiot talk, nobody except the people at Para/Dreamworks what the features will be in this edition. If anything, they are letting us think there will be the exact same features with their anouncement (One would think they could fit in a lot more with BD50s).
This being said, it is more than likely that the Blu Ray version will have something far more valuable than bonuses that the HD DVD version could not have:
Lossless Audio.

He is also going to be rather disapointed by the fact that the visuals are going to be identical or worse. The only benefit the Bluray version may have is better sound quality. Woohoo, how superior!!! suckers! hahaha
