Sydney Pollack’s Life: your best moments

Filed Under: Celebrity | By: Mark

Sydney Pollack was born in Lafayette, Indiana in 1934, and sadly died of cancer on May 26 2008 at the age of 74. He was well respected in Hollywood as an actor, director and film producer, and in that time has directed over 21 movies and 10 television shows. Pollack also acted 30 movies and TV shows and has produced more than 44 films. With so many movies under his belt, Sydney Pollack would have touched the life of so many people, so I ask you “what are your best moments.”

Pollack has been involved in many great movies, but Michael Clayton which he co-produced and also starred in opposite George Clooney was for me a great piece of work. But you can’t rule out some of his other work, like Eyes Wide Shut and Tootsie.

Sydney Pollack has been in the business for many years now, but it all started way back in 1952 when he studied with Sanford Meisner at The Neighborhood Playhouse, he was there until 1954, then from 1954 to 1959, he took on the role as the teacher and taught there, which then led to his acting career. He was not happy with just acting though, he wanted to become more involved, which is why he started to produce as well as direct. He embarked on his directing career in 1960, where he directed episodes of The Fugitive as well as Alfred Hitchcock Presents.

One of Pollack’s most famous roles was in the movie Tootsie, which he starred in and directed. It was no secret that Pollack and Dustin Hoffman did not get on, but this only added authenticity to their performance when they had scenes together.
