One of the world’s most famous designer’s Yves Saint Laurent had died at the age of 71, the fashion designer has been suffering from a long time illness as well has a lifetime of depression, and he sadly died in his home yesterday. YSL has been one of the most innovative designers; he is responsible for making fashion more accessible to the everyday person on the high street, for people like you and me.
YSL was one of the last of his generation that includes Christian Dior and Coco Chanel; Paris will not be the same again. Yves Saint Laurent was a very brave man, as he was the first to start using black models on his catwalk, something that we are all grateful for. YSL managed to make his label popular throughout the sixties and seventies, thanks to the launch of clothing items such as the tuxedo suit for women in 1966, this was called ‘le smoking suit’.
Yves Saint Laurent’s biggest break came back in 1957 when Christian Dior died suddenly died in 1957, YSL was then named the head of the House of Dior, and he was only 21 at the time. Such success like this took its toll on his state of mind, and suffered from depression throughout his life. Just last week YSL named Naomi Campbell as the new face of the French fashion house, she was to replace Kate Moss, both of which have had run inns with law.
