No matter where we turn a lot of the news in the UK at the moment will be about Britain’s Got Talent winner George Sampson, the latest story is of his battle to get to where he is today by beating the odds. He had a devastating spine disease, which sent him blind in one eye, doctors warned the young dancer that his break-dancing acts could leave him a cripple, but George defied doctors and kept on dancing.
The spine disease is called Scheuermann’s disease; this affects the curvature of the spine in teenagers that grow quickly. He has been telling The Sun, that the disease left him blind in his right eye for two-months. Just before he lost his site in his eye he recalls that he had just rubbed deep heat in his back, to relieve some pain, he first thought that some might have gone in his eye. The reason for the blindness was that the spinal nerves were trapped, this affected his optic nerves.
Doctors had said that he should stop dancing as he would be left permanently disabled; George has said that if his eye becomes sore he has to be rushed straight to hospital, as this is a first sing that he will need urgent treatment. It does make you wonder why Sampson lands hard on his back, if he knows that he has this spinal condition.
However; it is amazing what people will do just to try and get a break in life, George used to perform on the street just to pay for his dancing lessons. He even had to busk on the streets to help pay to get to the show’s auditions.
George Sampson owes a special thanks to Britain’s Got Talent judge Simon Cowell, as he was the one who made the decision for the dancer to repeat his Singing In The Rain, rather than perform Staying Alive by the Bee Gees. The Singing In The Rain performance proved so popular before, that it was guaranteed to do very well a second time round.

things like popping,floating and waving are simple but things like 6 step landing on your back hard can realy hurt you because of you condition but still you carry on well done =]

i have the same disease as George and i too am 14 years old i was diagnosed with the spine condition around 8 months ago. It got to the point where i could barely move at all. This condition gives you spasms of pain in your back. My doctor told me to keep active and to do exercises. I did do my exercises for around 2 months but after that i stopped despite what my doctor was telling me. 6months on and i very rarely get anypains in my back at all. If Georges condition was really serious he would not be able to bend down let alone dance as well as he does. Any way, good luck with the future George!

I think tht ur amazing, to have the confidence to go bk ob to britians got talent is one thing but to carry on dancing after recieving the news from ure doctor is another. I think tht ure a great dancer and u will stop at nothiung which is inspiring.

as good as a dancer you are i got a few issues that the above people either don’t see or ignore
1- you seem to hav got a sympathy vote due to being skint = there are millions of people in the UK who are in the same, if not worse, situation as yourself so to use it on national television is wrong. you should be voted for your talents NOT your situation and it is manipulative to act in such a way. further don’t it cross anyone’s mind that maybe many of the other contestants are in a similiar financial situation to george and yet didn’t use it to win?
2- do you not think it unfair on the other contestants to keep the fact that you suffer from Sheuermann’s Disease until after the end? this is an illness that can badly affect your act so much so that CONSULTANTS have told you not to do it. the final part of your act involves a back flip and ends with you HITTING YOUR SPINE!, it don’t take much thought to realise that this act aint gonna last long. Is it not unfair for an individual to win based an on act that they might not actually be able to perform in the near futur?
3- be honest, yes your a good dancer, but for you to be the shining exemple of the best talent the UK can currently produce is pretty appalling.
whether the above agree with this or not i dont really care so dont waste your time writing what will proberly be abusive comments cause its just sad and shows your don’t have much of a brain cell if that is what your going to spend your time doing. this comment is a different point of view, if you have a brain cell you will see it as such and not an attack on george which it aint.

okay so i live in America and we never see BGT but i saw you on youtube and you are so adorable and i love your smile. I love how determined you are and you are an inspiration to us all. I am so plesed when I heard that you won the competition. And to be onest with you i wanted you to win britains got talent. I know what you feel. i understand your heart. And can I just say… you will never gess who I am. And I don’t want you to know it. But probebly you will Know it one day. I am begging from you to listen to the doctors.
