Big Brother housemates in the past have constantly broken the rules, but with no serious punishment they did not seem to care much. Well in Big Brother 9, bosses are now getting tough when contestants break the rules, they will be going to jail. According to producer Phil Edgar-Jones this year’s show is all about “respect and discipline,” which is why the jail has been put there. The nick has been put in the garden, and looks very cramped.
BB bosses have said that the idea has been taken from the Belgian version of Big Brother; they are hoping that the new jail will act as a deterrent to unruly housemates who break the rules. The jail might just do the trick, as there is not enough room to move about in. In the build-up to BB 9, Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles and BB host Davina McCall tried out the new jail, and they did not look happy to be in there.
This years show will prove even harder for housemates, things that we take for granted like hot water is considered a privilege. Housemates will have to earn tokens to get hot water; tokens can also be won for things such as hairdryers and hair straighteners. Tokens will be won through tasks. These new twists in the show are hoped to inject more life in the show, well it needs something Big Brother 8 was a bit on the boring side.
