Narrow victory for defending Wimbledon champion Venus Williams


Defending Wimbledon champion Venus Williams did not make life easy for herself while playing Britain’s Naomi Cavaday. Williams was tested on her first set, but after that the seventh seed Venus cruised to victory to win 7-6 (7-5), 6-1. The tennis match was played on centre court at the All England Club.

19-year-old Cavaday must have surprised Williams; she managed to break her serve in the opening game of the match. Cavaday, showed that she was a fighter by pushing Venus to 4-4 in the first-set tiebreak, but Williams finally before the prevailed for a one-set lead.
The six-time Grand Slam champion, who started of slow then moved things up a gear and got into her stride. Williams, was in a different class in the second set where she managed to seal the deal with a forehand winner to improve her career record at Wimbledon to 52-7.

The match lasted 1 hour, 18 minutes, she served six aces as well as four service breaks, Cavaday, only managed just the one break. So could Venus Williams go all the way and win the title like she did in 2000, 2001 and 2005 and 2007
