Meryl Streep has thanked her real-life role as mum-of-four for transforming her into an all-singing Dancing Queen in Mamma Mia. But it’s said that her turn in the Abba-inspired movie is all thanks to her youngest daughter Louisa because she took Louisa and her friends to the Broadway version of the musical for her birthday.
It’s said that Meryl enjoyed herself so much, that she wrote the cast a fan letter which made its way to show founder Phyllida Lloyd, writer Catherine Johnson and producer Judy Craymer, so when they cast the big-screen version of the Musical hit, they risked asking Meryl Streep if she was interested.
Meryl said that “They called and said, ‘You probably won’t be interested but we’d love you to do this. I said, ‘Are you crazy? I would love to do this.’ It was a done deal.”
Meryl said that “I like to sing but when you have children they don’t let you. I don’t know if Placido Domingo has this problem, but my kids put their hands over their ears and yell, ‘Mom, Shut up! My friends will hear you. The dancing will mortify them, too-they’ll have to move to Alaska.”
Mamma Mia! is out on July 10th. I can not wait to see this film.
Do you think that the film will be able to live up to the big hype?
