
Former New York Yankees popular star Bobby Murcer has sadly died after losing his battle with brain cancer. The former All-Star also went on to have a very popular broadcasting career after playing for the team, Murcer was just 62.
Murcer had experienced a lack of energy so decided to visit the doctor, on Christmas Eve 2006 he was diagnosed with cancer. He underwent surgery where it was reported that the tumor was malignant.
Yankees chairman George M. Steinbrenner issued the following statement upon learning of Murcer’s death: “Bobby Murcer was a born Yankee, a great guy, very well-liked and a true friend of mine. I extend my deepest sympathies to his wife Kay, their children and grandchildren. I will really miss the guy.”
Bobby Murcer was never one to let things get him down, after he was diagnosed with brain cancer he was very upbeat, he even managed to thank his fans for their prayers and their warm wishes. Murcer played in Major Leagues for 17 seasons, as well as four All-Star appearances with his beloved New York Yankees.
Murcer is survived by his wife, Kay, and his two children, Tori and Todd.
