It has been announced that Pete Doherty played in tribute to 16-year-old Daniel Squires at his wake yesterday. It’s said that Daniel was big fan of Pete and that they formed a friendship after Daniel was diagnosed with bone cancer.
According to reports Pete spent time with Daniel’s family before taking to the stage and performing an emotional tribute alongside one of Daniel’s friends. Daniel’s wake was held at a pub in South Tyneside, North England.
Pub manager Lynette Gale said that “He said he wanted to come up as a tribute and it’s such a lovely gesture. It was special. It went very well, there were a lot of people here. He was on the stage at the back of the pub and everyone was crowding around him.”
Daniel’s father Mark said that “Pete invited Daniel to a concert in Bristol and dedicated a song to him. Another time, there was a fundraising show in London for the charity Teenage Kicks. “Although Babyshambles were touring Europe and not booked to appear, they flew back for the concert and asked organisers if they could do a set which they dedicated to Daniel. Pete also gave him his mobile phone number and told Daniel to ring him if he ever needed anything.”
It is really good to see that Pete really does have a heart and that he can behave himself when he needs to.
All our thoughts are with Daniel’s family at this time
