Can Richie Sexson help Yankess against left-handed pitchers?

We have heard that the New York Yankees are close to signing a deal with Richie Sexson, the Yankess are hoping that by signing Sexon he will be able to help them against left-handed pitchers. Richie Sexson who is a first baseman was released from the Seattle Mariners on July 10 and had a great record there; he was batting .344 with 5 home runs in 71 at-bats against left-handers this season.

Can Richie Sexson help Yankess against left-handed pitchers?

Sexon will be down at the NYY stadium on Friday, as of yet The Yankess have not announced this new deal as they still have to add Richie to their 25-man and 40-man rosters.

When Sexon was released from the Mariners he had about $6 million left on his contract which they are also responsible for most of his salary, the Yankees will pay him $160,000 this is the prorated amount of the $390,000 minimum salary.

To the Mariners, Sexon was a huge disappointment; he was in his final year of a four-year $50 million contract. He only batted .218 with 11 home runs and 30 runs batted in; compare that to last year where he batted .205 with 21 homers.

Many baseball fans might think that the Yankees are making a bit of a mistake with signing Sexon, but the New York Times feel that he is a low risk. From the start Sexon will be used against left-handers, if he is able to produce the goods then the NYY will have another viable hitter, if he does not then they can release him as they did not invest much into him.

You’ve heard the phrase “take my wife, please”? I’m going to miss Richie loping like a Giraffe around the bases (when he actually gets on base.) I wish you luck with Richie. Be gentle though as he’s very sensitive about his sub .200 batting average.
