No one can deny how popular The Dark Knight is, this will be one of the most popular comic book movies ever, most of this is thanks to the talent of Heath Ledger. Many movie goers are hailing him as the greatest ever screen villain.
Christopher Nolan has his work cut out to come up with a villain as good as Ledger’s Joker, but his brother David Goyer has told MTV that they already have something in mind for Batman 3.
Both Goyer and Nolan have already discussed a villain along with a theme for Batman 3, but as yet nothing is concrete.
Goyer has been saying that he is more interesting about the theme for the new Batman movie and not the villain at this moment. The screenwriter has said that once they sort the theme out, this will then lead to the villain.
So if there is now a villain in mind who could it be, many think that it could be The Scarecrow, The Riddler or maybe it could be The Penguin. Then comes the question as to who would be perfect for playing the role as the villain?
so the 150mil opening weekend inspired them to make another one, no kidding!

Get Johnny Depp to play the joker
Comment by Luis Vara — July 22, 2008 @ 1:19 am
Yeah, no surprise… but there is a concrete hint within the movie as to one person they may have in mind (scene where he redesigns his armor). Whether that villain is dependent on their theme is up to guessing.
Comment by William Hart — July 22, 2008 @ 2:15 am
ok, agree with the re-cast of joker with Johnny Depp. What about Bill Murray as a wealthy, screw loose Penguin who is backed by the mob. Scarecrow is still alive, so are the mobsters, and two-face isn’t dead from that fall.
Comment by Kube — July 22, 2008 @ 6:57 pm
Nathan W. Ely would be the best riddler, a terrific cast. Unknown, which would be so good and new to see an unknown face in the batman trilogy. He has been properly trained for acting, and is enrolled in Nevada casting, and he us also 18, perfect age and has the perfect body type for the role. Scary good at acting.
Comment by Livi — July 22, 2008 @ 11:18 pm
Yea, they still have to put in two face and get rid of the joker..will they bring in a third villian?
Comment by cb10 — July 23, 2008 @ 12:29 am
First of all, Depp is a great actor, one of the best of today in my opinion, but you cant recast the role of the joker after the amazing performance my Ledger. Let the Joker role be done and move on. I could however see Depp in a different Villain role.
Comment by Rock — July 23, 2008 @ 1:40 am
I think Johnny depp or collin farrel would be good as the joker. Johnny having proved he can be out there (I.E. wonka, sparrow, scissor hands) and farrel because he has so much room for potenital.
I see though jim carrey reprising his role as the riddler because he can be so much darker if he truly tried to be.
Comment by nathan — July 23, 2008 @ 5:43 am
are you kidding? heath ledger plays the villain too well to be replaced by johnny dept, who all would still remember as THE pirate, which would detract from the movie itself, penguin would be good, they need to keep the ball rolling with action, falling back to two-face or scarecrow would take away a lot of the meaningful dialog, which they would hopefully include around the new villain. good examples would be the entire beginning of TDK where the jokers character is shown through the bank robbery, and amazingly hilarious “make the pencil dissapear” scene.

DAniel Craig as MR. Freeze
Johnny Deep as the riddler
phillip seymour hoffman as PINGUIN

i say get depp to be the riddler. but i think the next villain should be the penguin. Heath ledger did an amazing job as the joker you cant replace that it wouldnt be the same

i LOVED jim carrey as riddler in Batman Forever. riddler would be a good choice in villain, but i wouldn’t go with carrey again.that character was a little comic book-y for nolan’s films, he’d definitely have to darken it up. plus, i think nolan’s tried to separate his films from the earlier installments and, as great as he would be, carrey in that same role again, would ruin that. riddler is still my vote for villain in #3 though. what about Steve Buscemi? or paul reubens? he’s got the look, but i don’t know if he’s got the chops. o0o0o or ANDY SERKIS?! yeah that’s my final answer.
stay away from depp. he’s great, i love him. really, i do. but he doesn’t have to be in every single movie made for the next 10 years with a quirky and/or dark role. might as well cast shia labeouf as robin.

Villians: Bane as main villian
Mafia villian:Black Mask
Side villian (only one or two):Deadshot, Riddler, Anarky, Hush, KillerCroc
Women villians: Harley quinn or Talia al Ghul (who knows maybe both)
Reasons behind these villians:
BANE: Bane outmatchs batman in toe to toe and is a strateigic genuis
Having bane trying to take out batman would be perfect.
Bane would take the whole situation that the cops are chasing batman and use it to a perfect advantage.
BLACK MASK: a scary Mafia boss who is one of the best, it combines the mafia and a so called “Freak”. He would take control of the underworld as batman is being chased and dealing with other villians black mask would use that to his advantage to be the number 1 mafia boss and claim the entire underworld.
Deadshot(slade): Slade is known to have the best aim in the entire DC universe. He has a complete messed up moral code. He is a hitman and will take out any person as long as the price is right. But he also has a daughter and wife that he is trying to support and keep safe. He would be able to maybe go after ppl who batman would need to protect from him and ppl can connect with him.
Riddler: Even though he seems to be liked, any movie with him as the main villian would be pathetic and would leave the critcs and audience ashamed of the movie. Riddler is a genius but one of the weakest batman villians. He leaves clues that batman always solves and then ends up catching him. He would be fine for a side villian that gives batman annoyance. It could take batman time to take out the riddler which would make batman not be at his best to fight the main villian which in my opinion should be Bane.
ANARKY: Anarky would be a very good side villian (anti villian) He could be the one who sticks up for the little guy who commits crimes only to survive while batman would stop them from commiting crimes. Which would leave batman and the veiwer wondering who is really doing the right thing. This would be a great point in any batman film.
HUSH (Tommy): Tommy and Bruce were best freinds when kids. Tommy eventually becomes a Villian known as Hush who wears bandages around his head. He would be a perfect villian because we would get to see more of bruce wayne in his childhood and learn more about him. plus it would make for a good fight.
KILLERCROC: He would be ok. It would be fun to see him running around and killing. He is stronger and faster then batman and is able to regrow any limb cut off. He would make for great fight scenes. and also leave batman guessing as to his whereabouts and when he will commit his next murder because he never makes a plan he just does.
Woman Villians:
Harley Quinn: Everybody seemed to love the joker, thats why without having the joker she would be good. Harley quinn though first apperaded in the animated series becaise she was so popular came into the comics.
She is Jokes right hand woman. She is almost just as crazy as the joker although only half as smart. She is in love with the joker but joker feels nothing for her (or does he we never know). She believes in all of jokers theories. She is also an acrobat.
She would be good as a woman villian because we havent seen a performance from her and she would add that jokerness that everybody is attarcted to.
Talia Al Ghul: Daughter of the villian in number one:
She can take over the League of Shadows. she is smart, sexy, and in the comics Batmans one true love.
She would add the spice to the movie of batmans falling in love.
Batman has one weakness giving his heart to others and she can be his true weakness in the movie.

what about the bank manager….Has anybody thought about what that meant….William Fichtner…Yes not an A list actor but he should have gotten a better role than a 10 min long scene as the bank manager…Think about what the joker said when he was putting that thing in his mouth…”What doesnt kill you makes you stranger”…think about it…
Comment by That1dude — July 24, 2008 @ 11:33 pm
Have you all forgotten the other thousand of Batman villians ???
What about Killer Croc ….or Clay Face ….Deadshot….I think they should have Clay Face in the third one he would be bad ass ..and also maybe have him team up with Bane
Comment by James — July 24, 2008 @ 11:55 pm
Johnny Depp as Joker is a good idea, but Killer Croc is a great idea. They should make him thug that gets a skin decease that gets shunned from the public. While being shunned from everyone he ends up going crazy with madness and kills for fun. While that is going on they should have Two-face hidden away in Arkam. Batman and Gordon try to get Dent to help them find Croc while fighting to get dent back to normal. Also batman is wanted so he has to deal with the cops/swat while trying to find Killer Croc. I know its a very brief plot but I think they can make it work.
Comment by Smak — July 25, 2008 @ 12:53 am
riddler would most likely be someone in the movie you didnt notice, hopefully you did though. anthony michael hall played a very small role as the reporter-engle. why such a large actor for such a small role? yes, cat woman should make an appearance, hellooo rememeber the quote “it’ll resist cats”. kinda foreshadowed. i agree that riddler is a very weak main villian though. but he is already in motion being in the movie as it is. but that could be where two face comes back. he cant be dead. honestly, he was signed up for 2 movies (as was ledger:( ) and can come back.
wish they had filmed parts of 3rd installment when they did TDK to put in bits of joker to add to his insanity and darkness.
Comment by badb0i33 — July 25, 2008 @ 1:45 am
I would really like to see Harley Quinn in a Third Batman Christopher Nolan movie, the reason being that the new Batman movies by Christopher Nolan portray villains in a very awesome style, and Harley Quinn has never been in any of the past Batman films. And I don’t think it wouldn’t be a bad idea if the Joker gets re casted.
Comment by VICTOR — July 25, 2008 @ 3:49 am
Hey, that guy’s right, why did they get William Fitchner to do the bank manager? This guy is the second star in the recent prison break season, he’s very high rated right now.
I think he could develop into a villain, i don’t know who, but there’s no reason to make such a scene and the talking with the joker if he doesn’t get killed.
Comment by Juan Pablo — July 25, 2008 @ 5:32 pm
What about Hugh Laurie to make the play Riddler??????
I mean, i love Dr. House, this guy is amazing for this job, he passes up from everyone making hurting jokes and intriguing personality.
This guy could make a very cool villain, maybe even as cool as the Joker character. Also I’d like to see a darker Riddler, kind of Saw-type, only not so graphic of course.
I dont see Deathshot or Bane coming because Nolan wants to make a movie with real characters, skilled and inteligent, but real and with no “special powers”.
So what would you say if they get Hugh Laurie?? I kinda imagine him making Batman get dizzy, like he did in the hospital with everyone.
Comment by Diego — July 25, 2008 @ 6:21 pm
You guys are stupid.
Riddler should be Hugh Grant, Hugo Weaving, or Jude Law.
Now STFU.
Comment by nimbus — July 25, 2008 @ 8:47 pm
For Batman 3 they should bring back Two-Face because he didn’t really look dead in The Dark Knight, and Batman and Gordon could’ve just told people he was dead and they could’ve have locked him up somewhere. They should also have Talia al Ghul, who can break Harvey out and Gotham would just go crazy knowing that Gordon and Batman lied.
Comment by Max — July 25, 2008 @ 10:10 pm
Re-casting Joker is the worst idea ever. Heath Ledger single-handedly erased Jack Nicholson’s legend from this series, made this movie, and redefined an ages-old villain. To re-cast him would be insulting to the role he turned in as The Joker. It’s time to move on.
I think that William Fichtner would be an excellent cast as The Riddler, who (for we purists) is not the onesie-wearing, dipstick that Jim Carrey portrayed in Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever, which was the worst use of A-list actors EVER. He is a calculated genius, hell-bent on outsmarting Batman, and Fichtner has the look (based on the comics). I think he’s the winner.
Depp is out of the question entirely.
Bill Murray as the Penguin? Seriously? No.
Paul Reubens? Ick.
I agree with whoever said that playing on Fichtner’s role and Joker telling him “What doesn’t kill you only makes you stranger” is a perfect setup, with a little resurrection of Dent/Two-Face.
Ledger made himself a legend with his role. Let it lie.
Comment by Gaston — July 26, 2008 @ 2:55 am
I don’t think they should have a diffrent joker. heath ledger killed it.
he did so good in the new one that i think it’d be insulting to make a new joker.

Alrite i think that Heath did a AWSOME job as the Joker, but Christopher Nolan in an interview said that there were some actors on his mind that could replace the Joker so i think he willl re cast the joker, and it will start off wit Joker in Arkam, and it will have him turning Harley Quinn bad and they will brake out and put Gotham to the real test

Btw, Two Face is dead, Would they have had the ceremony at the end of TDK praising him a hero if he hadn’t really been pronounced dead? I don’t think he’ll be back.
Comment by Adam — July 26, 2008 @ 5:09 pm
To whoever said that they are recasting for the role of joker, I believe you are mistaken. I read an interview with the nolan brothers and they said that they had originally intended to bring the Joker back for the third one but since the passing of Ledger he has already been taken out of the third movie script and they are currently working on a knew theme, Villain, but I believe two-face will be back and it wouldn’t be out of the question to see William Fichtner taking on a villain role now after his encounter with the Joker. I’m thinking he could be taking on the role of the riddler. This might be looking into it a little bit to much but a smoke bomb is usually a grey or white color, does anyone remember the color of the smoke coming out of that smoke bomb…? GREEN! Look for the Riddler.

Comment by randy — July 27, 2008 @ 1:04 am
Looking at the universe that Nolan has created it’s tough to visualise the traditional Batman villains fitting into it the way the Joker (and Two-Face) did. Having Batman chase around a Cat burglar seems like an anticlimatic way to finish off a trilogy. The Riddler could work, but my feeble imagination can only picture him holding hostages and such similar to the way the Joker worked in TDK. That seems very watered down compared to what we just watched as well. The Penguin running a large evil corporation…not feelin’ it either. Ras Al Guhl’s daughter Talia could work well. albeit it’s an easy way out. Since TDK was so good i am willing to wait and see. Whatever they come up with, i hope the Joker is finished. No actor would want to try and fill Ledger’s shoes anyway, not even the Pirate.
Comment by markp — July 27, 2008 @ 4:36 pm
So re-casting the joker would be a mistake, if the joker were ever to be recast it would have to be when this movie is out of everyones head as a blockbuster and more of a classic, similar to how this reappearance of the joker was put forth. No one screamed in outrage when it was Ledger cast instead of Nicholson, instead we were all like “remember when Jack was the joker, he was gooooood, I wonder if Ledger can live up to that” to bring the joker back so soon would be an insult.
As far as Villains I think Jim Carrey could give it another go under Chris Nolan, he seemd to have a more evil side in “The Number 23″ and maybe some more of that charecter in the Riddler could fit the bill.
What about jack Black as the penguin, he doesn’t have any real defining roles (like depp, the Pirate lol) I would love to see what is really on the bad side of his mind, it could be downright terrifying.
Bill Murray? maybe as a greenskeeper on Bruce Waynes private golf club…
What about Catwoman, does anyone care to see her back? I personally could go for a repeat of ANY villain used before Nolan took over because I think what he (Nolan) would put forth out of that would be ten times better… or darker… either way its better than the old stuff.
As far as Two-Face I think it would be stupid to bring him back after they killed him off… there was a funeral in the end of the movie, and for those of you who claim there was no casket… people in Gotham may be dumb enough for Batman and Gordon to get away with that but I think most VIEWERS would be like “hey… I know you… you were that dead guy in the other movie that they brought back cuz they couldn’t think of something better” I think we can expect more from a third movie, esp after the viewer response from TDK.
I am not a comic buff, so if you feel like tearing this apart please dont be too harsh, I’m just a fan who enjoys quality movies… and TDK is much more than a quality movie, I totally wanna be the Joker for halloween… scare the crap out of every kid that comes to my house lol
Comment by Mr Awesome — July 27, 2008 @ 10:02 pm
They can continue the storyline with joker captured in a cell for the rest of his life. But the influence of that mass-murdering psychopath’s actions would’ve had can play an important part in part 3’s storyline. I personally think for part 3 to be successful, they don’t necessarily need to recast joker but a very strong story-line. The dark knight’s success is primarily based on its story-line and augmented by heath’s performance. Similary for part 3, we need a very good story line and very good performances but you don’t need the joker to come up with a brilliant storyline.
Comment by Jon bray — July 28, 2008 @ 4:46 am
you are all looking into this way to much this movie will not be out for quite a while and they might be saying no re cast for the joker now but they might not be saying that later, as great as ledger was as the joker i think that depp would do amazing acting as ledgers joker, for one thing johnny is already replacing heath in another movie. depp was also rumored to get the job along with heath but heath beat him out, so maybe they do actually decide to bring him back and incorporate harley quinn with the joker, cause idk about all of you but helena bonham carter would fit the job for nolans darker style

I’ve read every comment on here and I’ve seen alot of good ideas.
I think since everyone is going against Batman I think that the next movie may-be-like the Hush series that Jim Lee drew(just more reallistick villians). Everyone will be against him. The mob will be run by black mask now and they’ll hire Deadshot to kill batman. Dead shot may be a friend of Bane so he’ll get bane in the picture. two-face will be probably the head of another group with hush, and maybe the riddler but i’ve never liked the dude so ya. and of course the police will totally be after him. and i think it would be cool of they throw tailia ine there too towards the end.
but then i think he’ll win over the villian groups but the police will totally be after him in maybe in a 4th movie that won’t just
just a batman movie. the police or mayor mayget superman in the mix that could be just a batman superman movie.
also we’ve been talking only talking about robin….. WHAT ABOUT Night Wing. He’s really dark and really complex come on
but idk
summary: it will take after the Hush series in ways

ok for everyone johnny depp as the joker never ever i like johnny depp and i think hes a good actor but it would kind of be an insult to heath ledgers memory like how would any of you like it if u were the joker and u gave it all your heart to give a fantastic performance and everyone liked it but in the end nolan says you know what screw the dead guy lets get someone to replace him honestly i believe people would kill nolan if someone else played the joker
anyways i would not like to see the penguin catwoman killer croc at all
but i would love to see two face again and team up with riddler or scarecrow or even bane as well as maybe black mask being a smaller villain on the side that batman beats

Why are you people so obsessed with reliving the past movies. They are not going to do past villains and the only reason they used the joker again was because he is THE Batman villain. Expect the writers to do just as they say and pick a theme and incorporate the bad guys after that. Just as The Dark Knight was based on the comic book series, “The Long Halloween” I’ll bet that they will pick another series to model this next movie after only it will be adapted to the theme and just as this one centered around duality and the fragility of “good” people.
I would love to see a Bane villain but then you have a big let down if they don’t break/kill Batman and then if you do, not many people will like your movie. The Black Mask with Slade is the best one I’ve sen yet, but then I don’t know how such weak villains could make a very good movie, either. But no matter what I’m sure they’ll do a good job.
Comment by Johnathan — July 29, 2008 @ 6:26 pm
I honestly thought Batman begins was a huge let down. But TDK was fucking awesome. As far as two face coming back, No, they’ll create a whole new story line, I dont think two face is a good enough villan to end the trilogy. I like the idea of a really dark version of the riddler w/some sick ass riddles.

Everyone needs to calm down! If you go to the Warner Bros website, you will read that they have decided that the Joker will not be back. They were going to put him in the 3rd movie but that got knocked out after Ledger died and they are writing him out of the script. Warner Bros mentioned that 2-face may be back but there will be a 2nd villian. They have stated that Penguin and Catwoman will not be in the movie and that they are working on the theme for the movie and have not thought about the villian yet.
It would be nice to see Catwoman (for all of us girls) but I dont think they will bring her back. If they do, Jolie or Beckinsale would be perfect - Beckinsale would be best-after seeing her in the Underworld movies, she would fit the role perfectly.

R.I.P. Heath Ledger
he did an amazing job as the joker
i really hope he wins the oscar
Im going to base my predictions of the villains on what i saw in TDK
William Fichtner was told by the Joker that “what doesn’t kill you makes you stranger”
and he is mafia so he could play a villain and i would definitely guess the Riddler
i know Johnny Depp doesn’t have a lot of fans but neither did Heath before TDK and i think JD would make a good Riddler too.
Did anyone wonder why the mayor was wearing eyeliner and had jacked up eyebrows?
My prediction is he will be the Penguin and since he’s mayor he will have a lot of power.
The Joker will not return and Two Face can’t because he’s dead. done.
Comment by Xtony — July 31, 2008 @ 12:11 am
i don’t think they should do robin
unless they get an amazing actor and have him be dark too
a saw type Riddler would be good
Mr. Freeze or Bane could work but, same with Robin,
only if they were redesigned and amazing

Bring in the Oracle,
Also.. how about Bane, Dr Death, Harley Quinn (The Jokers love) for new characters in the next movie/s
If you are going to go Catwoman cast Megan Fox over Angelina Jolie. She is a younger similar looking actor who is an up and comer.
I think a female villian would be a nice touch in the new movie.
I dunno why but I would like to see Nicole Kidman back in the movie franchise somehow. I like her as an actress. I doubt if that would happen though.
JOSEPH GORDON LEVITT, looks like Heath Ledger for sure but can he act still? I remember him from the 3rd rock days. Even if he had a near silent role with the make-up on to introduce Harley Quinn

remeber batman is now the villian. hes gonna be the villian which means penguin most likely will be in there because in the original series of movies in batman returns the penguin made batman out to be a villian. i expect the penguin to be in it for sure and 2 face will be in it to. he is NOT dead. only harvey dent is.
Comment by harley — July 31, 2008 @ 2:17 pm
t depends on Warner Bros. approach to Batman 3. Whether or not they would want to continue the franchise is vital. Or at least one in a darker Nolan-based state of mind. If they do choose to go forward then they need to finish with a film called ” The fall of Batman featuring the ultimate end of Bruce Wayne as Batman when he suffers permanent paralization from the waste down as a result of a backbreaker he receives from an evil muscle-bound Roid-freak character named Bane. The film should then focus on the transition of a new character as Batman who is an understudy to Wayne as Wayne was to Ros Al Guhl. Creating the opening for a new trilogy and a new title…”The Legend of Batman”. How does that sound?
Comment by Josh — August 1, 2008 @ 1:46 am
The Penguin is certainly loved by many, but that adoration is for the Burgess Meredith Penguin of the ’60s Batman TV show. Few people have a great affection for the comic-book incarnation of the dumpy crimelord. Penguin has a lot going against him. He’s not insane, he’s not menacing and he’s never come off as any kind of a threat. For a man portrayed as an imposing crime boss, Penguin is a laughable character. He is the Rodney Dangerfield of Gotham City — except he truly deserves no respect.

The next Batman film is most likely to be called “Batman: Shadow of the Bat” After a Batman comic series title thingy.
The fact popular actors such as Johnny and Angeline are so quickly getting in touch with Nolan after “The Dark Knight” was released, is most likely because q. popularity and fame, and B.- Nolan has created a completely other world, and the enchanting thing about it, is it’s so fictional yet at the same time, very realistic, which is why everyone (whether they notice it or not) is so drawn to it, including the actors that are serious about their work and love doing what they do, they want to be apart of this other world. And Nolan plans to keep the world like this, which means he can’t include characters like Penguin, Ivy, Freeze, Catwoman, ect.
Alright, if Nolan did say “No Catwoman” and we all know “No Poison Ivy”….Well then, my 1st conclusion is that He’s going to do what Spider man 3 DIDN”T do and should have done, which is have one main villain (Riddler) and include a cameo for joker, and in the 4th movie~(well I’m hopping for Joker and Harley ^^;;)
Yes, Riddle me this, riddle me that, who doesn’t want to mess with the big black bat? The Riddler is known to people who aren’t comic junkies and hard core fans, meaning he’s quite popular. He’s also similar to the Joker. However, they’re are some major differences, which can be a big advantage in surprising crowds, we’ll predict his actions to be like the joker’s, then he’ll turn and do something completely different. Bring ‘em out, I wanna see people go into shock!
HARLEY QUINN!! -XX3333 NOW, before I tell you where she should be, let me tel you about HER. Harley has only been seen in the comics a bit, the 1998 show, and the series “Bird of Prey”. Not really anywhere else.
WHICH MEANS- She’s an EXTREMLY flexible character to work with and absolutely love. I’m sure Nolan would agree. HOWEVER, I DO NOT THINK SHE SHOULD BE IN THE 3rd MOVIE!!!….She should come and kick ass in the 4th. blaugh
The joker isn’t dead, so what will most likely happen is he’ll get a cameo in the 3rd movie, and come back with Harley in the 4th.
As for Harvey Dent/2 face……I’m not so sure what will happen with him. We never found out if he was really *dead* despite the fact they made it look like he was in the movie. Either his performance in The Dark Knight was just a preview of what it’ll be like in the 3rd movie, or he really is dead and it all was just a red herring .____.

The only way to come close to Ledgers Joker, is for the 3rd movie’s villian to have John Lithgow as the Ventriliquist w/Scarface puppet…this would make an awesome villian and an actor that could pull it off great…

johnny depp as the riddler or rachel as catwoman
Comment by mike — August 2, 2008 @ 6:21 pm
Riddler- Ralph Fiennes or Johnny Depp
Penguin- Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Catwoman- Rosario Dawson or Angelina Jolie
Black Mask- Hugo Weaving
Bane is too unrealistic for the series. All the above are good for me.
Comment by Liam Thomas — August 2, 2008 @ 7:52 pm
In my opinion, first off i would scrap the idea of the riddler let alone johnny depp playing the riddler. This is because so many people mix up the riddler and the joker and they would just compare him to Heath Ledger constantly and if Johnny Depp didn’t play his role as good as Heath Ledger played the joker then that could be a major let down. However i completely love the ideo of having Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin. Also Two Face should be brought back into the story because in the DC universe Two Face is a well known villian and in the dark knight they said ‘you either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villian’ only few people saw Two face as a villian. As for any other villians to be introduced i reckon that Hush a childhood friend of Bruce’s would be a good candidate. Talia Al Ghul would also be excellent as a new love intrest in my opinion.
Comment by Mal — August 3, 2008 @ 2:21 pm
i think that johny depp should definately play the joker
and for all you sayin no one can replace the joker
how would they explain the jokers death if dark knight left him alive
jim carry would be the only role for the ridler(and trust me he can go darker)
those should be the villians for the next movie

Bane-played by the rock
riddler-played by nicholas cage
then u can have black mask as a mob leader
bane would be hired by the cops to hunt down batman though gordan is against it the mayor decides its a must
riddler could be batmans dilemma cause he is murderin people just to toy with batman
so batman has to escape bane take down riddler and stop a deal black mask is makin with other mobs

t depends on Warner Bros. approach to Batman 3. How does that sound?

i love that idea a lot. but teh problem is batman begins is year one and the dark knight is only a year or 2 after that.
Comment by harley — August 4, 2008 @ 2:24 am
i think it will be the Hangman
Hangman is a serial killer who murders police officers on every holiday of the year, leaving behind a version of the children’s word game “Hangman” (with key letters missing) spelled with letters in blood on each new victim. During the events of Batman: The Long Halloween (to which Dark Victory is a sequel), Batman captured and imprisoned Alberto Falcone, the serial killer known as Holiday who murdered members of the Falcone crime family on holidays (although Harvey Dent’s wife Gilda claims to have been the first Holiday, and technically, by murdering Alberto’s father, Carmine Falcone, in the final issue of The Long Halloween, however, Dent himself is the final Holiday killer).
All these characters tie in with people we have seen in the previous 2 films and being a serial killer would fit in the darkness like the 2nd film

harvey is not dead cause batman will not kill. you can replace joker but it wouldnt be the same and they would not do that especially after the performance by heath. johnny depp would be perfect as riddler he can be incredibly dark and funny and kinda twisted. theriddler is not the strongest villain but neither is the joker and they could find a way to make it work. so i say for the third the villains are mainly two face and riddler and maybe still a little of scarecrow and the introduction to the penguin

and when HARVEY/TWO-FACE comes back they should work together to get rid of batman !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but it will probably be someone who has never been on film before like MAN-BAT or HARLEY QUINN who could come to get revenge for the JOKER !!!

Harley quiin, Talia al ghul, Lady shiva, Catwoman.
Nightwing, Robin 1, 2 or 3, Huntress, Batgirl 1, or Batgril 2 which is Cassandra Cain,(Batgirl 2 is much darkier a much better charecter also batgirl 1 wouldnt fit in nolans universe as in nolans universe barbra is his wife not daughter) Oracle.

The only way I can see Catwoman working is if she is leaning towards her good, heroine side and not the villain side…being more of a love interest for Batman. But i don’t know, maybe even that wouldn’t work.
And I really, truly doubt Two-Face is dead. They wouldn’t go through that much work in the second movie with the Joker trying to corrupt him and have him die, even if he didn’t completely succeed at it I still think they sent him to Arkham. Besides, he really didn’t fall from very high up. He looked more unconscious than dead. Sal Maroni probably fell from higher when he broke his legs.
Honestly though, I think it’s still too early to really know what Nolan’s plan is. Even if he has a solid plan now, it can change at any time if he gets an idea. I wouldn’t be surprised if the 3rd film is Batman’s story again, and not the villain’s (I think we can all agree that TDK was The Joker’s show, which was amazing). I think that all we can do right now is trust Nolan to continue his strong vision on the world of Gotham.

Bane of course and the knightfall storyline, its the only thing as big as jokers story arch in tdk, especially the climactic end when bruce wayne fights psychopatic azrael on the bridge.
I dare anyone to come up with a better way to end the trilogy!
Comment by alex — August 11, 2008 @ 7:26 pm
who knows what the plan will be for the next one. batman is gonna be chased thats for sure which means the 1st half of the movie he will be fighting for hus survival and by the middle of the movie gordans son and other kids will be getting the adults to believe batman did no wrong and will be begging for his help and then his redemption will begin and the movie will end with batman as the hero of gotham once again because the truth about harvey dent will come to the surface and it will have to do with gordans kid. i just have that sneaky suspicion. the eyes of the innocent always open the eyes of the corrupted.
Comment by harley — August 11, 2008 @ 11:10 pm
has anyone thought about the possibility of some stuff that should have been in TDK was not put in specifically to save ledgers character for a cameo in the third one. I heard something about joker being on trial. Him on trial would be an amazing scene first of all, no makeup-just scars if they have any film of him that they didnt use (which you know they do) they can have him in to end the joker without replacing him. that said i think kevin bacon would be a good riddler and the mayor with the eye makeup is definitly some villain as is the owner of the bank. but the scene with the armor when they say about the cat makes me think catwoman…personally no character will recreate the success of this movie but im loving nolans batmans and i cant wait for the next.
WHY SO SERIOUS?
Comment by Joey B — August 12, 2008 @ 12:53 am
Robert Downey Jr could really tackle the role of the Riddler. He could capture the audience and draw in the crowds like ledger did for the Dark Knight. He’s also more physically intimidating than johnny depp. I like depp as an actor, i just feel jr’s persona says the riddler more so. Hes got the phsyco look!

First off, I personally think that Two-Face is dead. At first I thought that they shouldn’t bring him back, but after reading one article I saw how it is possible for them too, which would actually be good. Have him just been secretly locked in the insane asslyum.
Witht the next film, I think the Riddler should be the villain. I think that since in almost all comic book movies they made the stories different, they could make the Riddler’s story different. I think a good way is for him to have been a loyal follower and believer in the Joker. Seeing how that yes they are different, but they are both kinda simialr. They’re both crazy and jokesters. Another way that I saw that it could be done, was have them bring him in to try and find Batman. By doing so, he could be changed to evil like the Joker did to Two-Face.
Comment by Dan — August 12, 2008 @ 2:14 pm
If the two-face isn’t dead then the whole point of the ending of the Dark Knight is thrown completely out the window. As for the Riddler, the Mad Hatter, and the like, they are all too similar to the Joker to have the drastic impact the next film will need to keep up. Clayface and Killer Croc? I think the new gritty, more realistic approach to Batman needs to avoid these highly fictional characters, since that’s what worked with the latest film.
One thing’s certainly true though, Batman needs a new love interest (which could double as a villain). I believe that Poison Ivy would probably be the best choice; although she may not be my favorite. Ivy would prove to be a flexible character that they could do whatever they wanted with. Catwoman on the other hand would have to be treated with special care considering the last failed attempt to cash in on the character. I also think it may be a little too soon to resurrect any of the previous characters (especially the Joker), which makes me doubt I’ll see Talia for a while since she has such a strong connection to Ra’s.
The question I have is who will be the next heavy hitter (main villain)? Bane? Too mindless. One of the members of the Legend of Shadows? Not known well enough. Although I personally hate the character, I could see them possibly using the Penguin given Batman’s current standing with the law. However, I would by no means consider him a heavy hitter, and I highly doubt he could be portrayed in a way that would work with the new films.
Comment by Tyelor — August 13, 2008 @ 11:45 am
Bane mindless? what are you talking about. Bane is the only person besides the joker to beat Ra’s in chess.
Bane is the only person who mastered a plan and beat batman
Bane was a memeber of the League of shadows at one point.
You obviously don’t know that much about bane.
Posion ivy as a love interest is the same thing as the batman and robin movie.
Nolan doesn’t want to redo those movies he wants his own, expect all the villains in that one if he has them he will completly redo them just as he redid the joker and two-face, they were nothing like how they were in the old batman movies.
Penguin is too much of a joke(Nolan also said penguin and catwoman are his least favorite charecters in the entire batman universe), if he wants a big mob boss he will go with either black mask, or scarface or just cont. with regular guys as mob bosses.
I can see him using, Riddler, anarky, bane, deadshot, killercroc, talia, harley, zeiss, black mask, scarface
I can see him using others but except at least one of those to be in the movie.
Comment by mikey — August 13, 2008 @ 7:55 pm
Unfortunately the only thing people know about Bane (Unless you know the comics) Is through that hideously steroid friendly creature in Batman and Robin.
Wikipedia search him Tyelor:
“Bane (real name unknown) spends his childhood in a hellish prison on the corrupt island nation of Santa Prisca where he develops superhuman strength through a forced experiment involving the drug Venom. Although his dependency on Venom is an immense weakness, Bane has been one of Batman’s most intelligent and physically powerful foes. He is best known for breaking Batman’s back in the “Knightfall” story arc. While primarily a villain, Bane is a complex character and has worked to take down drug lords. Despite their history, he has sometimes had Batman’s financial backing and direct assistance. In most other media adaptations of the character, Bane is more simplistic and thug-like than his comic book counterpart, notably in the 1997 film Batman & Robin where the character is practically mindless.”
And drugs unfortunately these days seems very common so they could really use him as someone who became addicted to the drug Venom recieved superhuman strength and battles batman.
He could be someone that an ‘on the run’ Batman meets while outrunning the law and befriends (to an extent) to get rid of some crims, that is until he realise Bane is nothing but bad news with his own agenda and is actually working in Kahoots with Talia, Posion Ivy, Catwoman, Harley quinn.. Yeah so I am gunning for a female villain…
I’m not 100% keen on a Bane/Ivy duo again. *shudders*
All these views seem net to me though.
Keep speculating everyone I love all your idea’s
Comment by Purr — August 14, 2008 @ 7:46 am
Here’s my take. Given the death of a key character in The Dark Knight, a childhood friend of Bruce’s would be very upset and blame Batman for it. However, since Mr. Reese happens to know (and may or may not become the Riddler), this friend would go after and find out who Batman really is.
This would give rise to a man who fits the disturbing and psychologically dented world that Nolan has created. Hush.

I really think you really have something there He2etic. I agree they should stick with the realistic demented world of psychopaths. That being said, if they have a riddler i really think that he should be all out insane hell bent on revenge. I would like to see a riddler similar to the dude from Saw, gotta solve the riddles or the good people of Gotham will be picked off one by one. As far as Two-Face. We never saw him die…Yes there was a funeral, but think your little minds back to early in the movie……..Gordon was perceived dead as well. And they said they wanted Gotham to remember Harvey for the way he was…the white knight. Gordon could have thrown him into Arkham for safe keeping because the real Harvey did die.

I personally don’t want to see any of the usual Batman villains. They’ve all been done to death and that it’s going to be one of them is too predictable.
The logical progression from TDK is that Batman is going to be cast as the bad guy (in the eyes of Gotham).
The lie will get out of the control of Gordon and Batman. Fuelled by the press, more and more stuff will get pinned on him, criminals will start to dress up like him, and all manner of crimes will be attributed to him, tapping into a theme from Julius Ceasar (who was mentioned in TDK) that the mob likes only one thing more than building up a hero, and that is destroying a hero.
Eventually, the citizens of Gotham will call for the nuclear option - the ultimate response (the big theme), and that nuclear option in the DC universe is Superman, the most powerful being and weapon in the universe.
Cue a shocking and titanic battle, with Superman initially buying the press rubbish, and Batman seeing Superman rather like the monster in Cloverfield, as something alien and out of this world, that doesn’t belong in it, and needs to be destroyed. Remember Fox saying that no one man should have that much power in TDK about Batmans machine? That’s what Batman is going to see in Superman - one man who has too much power - something that like the machine should not exist.
Seeing something as out there as Superman in the relatively realistic Nolan&Goyer Batman universe will be shocking, and as long as Nolan&Goyer can put their twist on Superman without destroying his essence, that shock value will be helpful to them. (Not an easy task and no one has been able to do it, except in some of the comics, which will be known to those to whom elements of this storyline will be familiar.)
It won’t be hard for them to portray Superman as the ‘bad guy’ to us, because he could embody that blind do gooder attitude, that sees everything at face value, and rushes in all guns blazing, with more power than he seems to know what to do with.
The resolution of the film will be that Batman comes to see that Superman is not just a powerful being, but an extraordinary human being - someone worthy of being trusted with the power he has, but contrary to most peoples expectations Batman will win the fight because he will discover Superman’s Achillies heel - kryptonite.
Goyer asked in his recent interview how they could top TDK, well I think this would do the trick, assuming they could overcome the considerable challenges, most obviously: How to handle Superman in the Goyer&Nolan Batman universe and who would you get to play Superman who could put in a performance to equal Heath Ledgers?
Comment by Jake West — August 16, 2008 @ 5:52 am
I think that Jake West has got a really really good idea, but in some aspects it wouldn’t work for me. I mean yes Superman would come as a shock to Nolan and Goyer’s very realistic universe and it would also make an amazing storyline but i just think (i’m not doubting how well Nolan can make films) it would be almost too difficult to pull off. Because they would need to get every single aspect spot on or it could ruin the film. Things like they would need to cast superman oh so carefully and they would need to bring down his character a bit to make him a bit more realistic to suit the universe and to me it just seems like to big a job for anyone to handle. But it was a great idea none the less. As for a plot that i would like to see in the next installment was what grahame farmer posted, the hangman. I think that this would be a great story to follow (Batman: the long halloween), i think that it is realistic, suits Nolan and Goyers universe and is well within their capability. Hangman is a serial killer who kills police officers according to holidays. However they would need to tweek the storyline a bit, for example having batman still trying to evade the police but at the same time helping them try and capture the hangman. Also Harvery Dent is in the long halloween so that would be and opurtunity to bring back Two-Face. Two-Face could still be enraged and hell bent on getting revenge on Gordon and batman but still leaving everything up to chance. This way he could still be able to save gordon’s life when he was hung. As for any love intrests i’m not too keen on catwoman or poison ivy so Talia is what i’m sticking with for now but they would have to find a way to carefully tie in her story arc. Anyways thats what i would love to see.
Comment by Mal — August 16, 2008 @ 3:31 pm
Mal I see your point, and I kind of make it myself. It would either be the greatest comic book movie of all time or a dreadful mess, and it would all depend of the casting of Superman and how they integrated him into their universe.
However, I would point out that The Dark Knight is the title of a Batman series of comics written by Frank Miller, which is possibly the most critically acclaimed series in the history of Batman, and many of the key beats in my plot outline are straight out of this mini series, including the role of Superman.
What I would do if I was Goyer and Nolan, would be to consult Frank Miller on how to write the character and who to cast. If anyone would get it right it would be him, and if it can work in a comic, which introduced many of the ideas Nolan and Goyer have followed, then it can work in a movie.
Your idea is a good idea. The problem with it as you tacitly acknowledge is that it would mean abandoning everything they have set up in The Dark Knight, which is very close to the Frank Miller story, which would be a shame, and it would also arrest the momentum of sense of logical progression of the first 2 movies.
Comment by Jake West — August 16, 2008 @ 5:35 pm
For those who are interested here is a link to some info about Frank Miller’s great graphic novel:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman:_The_Dark_Knight_Returns
This is how Miller deals with Superman:
“Superman, aka Clark Kent, is a pawn for the US government. He has agreed to stay out of sight and obey orders. His internal monologues show that he detests having to be a government weapon and is only doing so to prevent war between humans and superheroes. His existence seems to be secret: when incidents involving him are reported on the TV news, the main newscaster is constantly prevented from naming or making distinctive references to the Man of Steel (In fact, nowhere in the novel does the word “Superman” appear).”
Although the main focus of such a film would have to be Superman, in order for the situation to get bad enough to call him in, there would have to be some damage done by some of the traditional villains.
All of them, excluding The Joker, who have been set up and maybe some others, would take advantage of the mob turning against Batman, and would wreak havoc that Batman simply couldn’t make an impact on. Cue the entry of Superman - both to sort out the anarchy, and to deal with Batman.
Done right this could be the most awsome superhero movie of all time, but as Mal says, it would have to be spot on or it would be a real turkey.

Ellen Page from Juno, as Harley quinn , nice !!!!!! And put the Joker in Arkham Asylum, but just use heath ledger’s voice taunting the other
prisioners from the shadows from the of the cell and maybe
keep his eyes reflecting so you Know he’s there.[the joker was just as scary when you didn't see him] And have Harley Quinn visit him
in the cell. [Harley Quinn not in costume] And have them talk about
Harley Quinn get Revenge on Batman. Harley Quinn walk off grinning
to herself , and as she walks off hear Heath ledgers voice in the background laughing And when she’s gone show the jokers eyes reflecting from the shadows while he’s laughing [just like the comics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]
Comment by edso — August 16, 2008 @ 9:46 pm
As you say Laughing Boy, Miller’s take is the way to go.
I also like your idea of whole bunch of bad guys going on the rampage as the lynch mob effectively take Batman out of the equation for them. Give everyone of them, short of the really obvious ones, a cameo.
The way I would deal with Superman would be to have Clark Kent come to Gotham to cover the story. The chaos could be so bad that they could almost present Gotham like a warzone and Kent could be an embedded journalist.
This would of course coincide with a downturn in the fortunes of the criminal element, but for alot of the movie, we would never see Superman, only the effects of his actions, which would be awe inspiring - get it ’shock and awe’ and all that - even terrifying and devstating to the extent of invoking a sense of a nuclear attack.
All we would see or hear about superman at first would be through fringe publications, primarily on the internet, by a group of geeks stalking the phenomena, who have no more than one or two blurry photographs that could be anything, and some really weird theories to provide a little comic relief, but tucked away in the weirdness will be a couple of grains of truth.
At first Batman would not take it seriously, but at some point he would find himself in a perilous situation, probably as Bruce Wayne, and he would see something, not the whole picture, but enough to change his mind, and then Fox would get involved.
Batman would start stalking Superman, although he wouldn’t really know what he was stalking at first, as Superman cleaned up Gotham for him, and then when the streets are clear, Superman confronts him, and he realizes that he has been stalked by Superman, who needed to make sure all the fakes were out of the way before attempting to capture him.
Batman would escape the first confrontation with luck more than anything, but by the time of the second confrontation he discovers kryptonite , and is on the verge of killing superman, when he sees him for who he really is, rather than who he imagined him to be, bringing in the Jokers observations about seeing the truth of people before they die.
Batman relents. They become friends. And we take a big step towards a justice league movie.
Two key stumbling blocks:
1. The actor
2. The suit - the whole Cloverfield approach worked because the monster was pretty monstrous, but the big payoff being a guy in blue longjohns who wears red y-fronts on the outside… well, let’s put it this way, they wouldn’t really need to do a spoof, it sounds risible, and visually it would be even funnier/worse.
For the first problem I have no idea of a good enough actor, with sufficient presence, who would look the part.
For the second problem, I would abandon the suit and cape. When he appears, he appears as Clark Kent without the glasses.
Before every Superman fan starts screaming, I’m not suggesting we dump the suit forever. Just for this movie, and then, when the new Superman movie comes, Superman gets some kind of an origin story that makes sense of the suit like Batman got in Batman Begins. It will be tough, but once the cat’s out of the bag, the suit will be easier - not easy, but easier, to accept. First off it would literally be a silly distraction, the focus has to be on his power, that would be the big theme of this movie, whether or not such power should be allowed to exist in the hands of one man. You cannot make that funny, and the suit with the greatest of resect is funny.
One thought about the suit. The key concept is evolution.
Batman’s suit has evolved. Why not Superman’s? In the Superman movie I would have the original suit being something far more like a Kryptonian military uniform or suit of armour, and when Superman, after his outing in this Batman movie, decides to become a full time superhero under his own banner rather than as a Government lacky, because he sees the nobility of a man he would have destroyed on their orders and realizes that he needs to make his own decisions, he symbolically decides to don the uniform and adopt the symbols of his true forebears. Like Batman he would discover that what he started out with had drawbacks. He would strip it down, and end up with the familiar suit, which is what it is - daft, but the original wouldn’t be, and the process by which he arrived at the daft outfit would not be, and maybe if it was done well enough, when Superman appears in his iconic form at the end of the new Superman film, we will be so caught up in it that we will just go with it.

Ok, Ok, Ok…ive read through all the posts here and have done some crucial research into this.
Some have said that it would be a mockery to make a third batman - it wont. the fans know that heath ledger was a great actor, but cant stop a movie being made in his memory.
I very much like the idea by ‘edso’ about the Joker being a ’shadow character’ it does help both the character and the tough decision of casting and role. I noticed before someone mentioned Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a possible joker replacement - purely for the role and not the acting as he does resemble closely to Ledger. This could open doors for the popular belief that Harley Quinn will be a villain in the next movie. she was originally a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum and that can be how she follows the Jokers regime.
i want all of you who are saying stupid things like cast Ellen page, mike myers, keira knightly, johnny depp etc. just stop talking… it doesn;t have to be a big name to be an awesome movie. Even though Jim Carrey is a great actor, and has shown he play a convincing dark role (such as The Number 23), he is not the right material for a remake of the Riddler.
Personally, I find the idea that because of the build-up around the character of William Fichtner (Bank Manager) from the Joker’s phrase ‘What doesn’t kill you makes you stranger’ - thats something to send a man insane, and also the mention about Anthony Michael Hall (Television Reporter) to play the vital role of the Riddler. Did any of you notice that Anthony Michael Hall’s TDK character is an approximate anagram of E. Nygma (The Riddler). As said before also, both Anthony Michael Hall and Willlian Fichtner are big names at the moment, why would they cast then for such small roles.
If any villains are chosen, you have to remember that Nolan is making them darker and humanised, rather than comical. i mean, in the comics, the scarecrow was pretty ucha scarecrow, in nolans Batman Begins, the scarecrow was a psychiatrist with a twisted sense of treating patients. Nolans is aiming for a Dark, Humanised and realistic villain. Bane is no. Killer Croc is no. Penguin is seriously debatable. Catwoman is a definite no because fo the Catwoman movie. She is a hero. they cant just throw away a movie to play that character. Mr. Freeze is ‘iffy’(but still, they dont want to completely change how we saw all the great batman villains 10-20 years ago, they will always be seen as the great actors of their time). Whoever said batman is both incredibly stupid and smart. Have u noticed how many movies are set-ups for combined movies. Ironman and The Incredible Hulk both have things that denote the new movie The Avengers. We may see the creation of Justice League movie.
Two Face is not dead. As seen through the whole TDK movie, they loved Harvey Dent, he was a light through the darkness that was plagueing Gotham. How cold they explain that as a result of being horrifically maimed and disfigured, be went insane and started killing cos his little girlfriend got blown up. Also the fact that Aaron Eckhart IS signed up for another batman movie. My opinion for the new movie is that he is recovering in arkham asylum, they staged the funeral service because they knew they cudn’t get harvey dent back to his old ways. However, i think he still may play a large part in the next film. Obviously he is situated close to the Jokers cell, he may play the part of helping to stop Harley Quinn or outsmart the Riddler.
I hope you all enjoy my opinion about TDK and the next batman film.

Hi, me again…
had to do a bit more scrounging around for some more points. I would like to apoligise, but after looking at the cast list and past castings of the actors, I beleive there could be a possibility for a Bane. But contrary to popular belief - he is muscle, not brains. A rather large part was played by Tommy Lister who played the rather larger Prisoner on the boat who throws the detonator out the window. If you have seen the past bane, you will notice he has restraint. he is not just a rampaging machine of muscle. Could this be a sign of things to come in a possible 4th movie?
On the important subject of a sidekick. After a successful introduction of Robin in the 1995 Batman forever and following 1997 Batman and Robin. Can he be cast in as the Dark Knight’s faithful and catch-prase prone buddy Robin. we all remember the heroic “Holy , Batman!”. Could we see the darker, and more elusive Robin form of Darkwing? What about the beautiful batgirl, she was created form the character of Alfreds neice, quite contrary to the comic introduction of 2 different batgirls. One being commisioner gordons daughter (who Nolan renamed and gave the name Barbara to his wife who is just a tad to old to be the gorgeous young superheroin. The other being Cassandra Cain who was associated with the League of shadows…could this introduce the prominent part of a daughters revenge in Talia’s Al Gul?
A love interest for batman has been mentioned a couple of times and since the recent passing of the character Rachel Dawes, batboy may need a girlfriend. Is is possible for tha character of Harley Quinn to be her. Or even, according to her character, Harleen Quinzel the love interest of bruce wayne, enemy to the Riddler, while Harley quinn being the love interest for the riddler (while she of course has a heart for the joker) and being the batman villian. I no it may sound complicated, but give it some thought, there are so many pathways that Nolan can go down to create a successful movie.
Catch ya soon guys. Enjoy.

wow, looks like you’ve done youre research Finch. Impressed. But just a few things, where does Batman on the run from the police fit into all of this? And Nolan didn’t necessarily change Gordon’s daughters name he just renamed his wife. Gordon’s daughter could still technically be called Barbara and become the future Batgirl. Also, i couldn’t exactly picture Batman having Robin as a sidekick just yet but i can definetley picture Robin being in it, however just as reliable asset to distract the police or throw them off the lead in certain situations. But yeah on the whole bloody good work.

Finch: just so you (and everybody else) know, the Catwoman movie with Halle Berry was NOT connected with the DC Universe/Gotham Catwoman, it was a completely separate thing (thank goodness). Just FYI…
Comment by CW — August 19, 2008 @ 9:09 pm
thanks man,
yeah, i tried to avoid the hole fact that batman is on the run, because, some would say that he has been on the run during BB and TDK. kinda negligible, cos there can be so many theories about how villains, plotlines and themes will fit into this new scenario.
I cant seem to find it, but there is an article about Nolan changing Gordon’s wife to barbara instead of having his daughter named Barbara (as denoted in comics and online)

hey CW,
Im not a comic-geek or anything, but i and most ppl who have seen the catowoman movie, associate it with DC comics…and therefore the connections it has to other comic heroes and villains. thanks for the info.
Comment by Finch — August 19, 2008 @ 9:13 pm
Ya most people do associate it with DC so I’m just trying to disassociate the two. Because DC’s Catwoman had a very different storyline than the movie (I haven’t seen the movie, I just know the basic storyline so you probably know more about it than I do) where Berry’s character was more of a literal “Cat”woman while DC’s catwoman is more of a cat burglar with a conflicted good vs. evil conscience. I’m also not a comic geek (albeit wishing I was more of one), so sorry if I sounded patronizing or anything. I just know some of the basic stuff.
Comment by CW — August 19, 2008 @ 9:18 pm
nah man, not at all.
yeah, i knew a fair bit about comics as a kid and now that im at uni, i sorta rely on movies rather than their origin. but thats right, its hard to discern whats right and wats been ‘modified’
Comment by Finch — August 19, 2008 @ 9:26 pm
I find it strange that some people think it is dumb to bring back Two Face yet have no problems with bringing back Rachel Dawes as Catwoman. Now that would be dumb. She exploded.
We do not know if Two Face is dead or alive. That is still a mystery.
Two Face= alive
Rachel= dead
Comment by fernando — August 20, 2008 @ 8:34 am
i think the fact that two face is still alive and rachel is dead has been established
Comment by Finch — August 21, 2008 @ 10:31 am
Did they actually find Rachael’s body?
She could of been swept away by Darkwing. I know this is most probably not going to happen but *shrugs* you never really know unless you are writing the script right?
Finch : I love where you are going with the script.
Bane to me should be brains with muscle as it is in the comic world.
Coleman Reese or Mr Reese (The guy whoo found out who batman is and went to the newsdesk to tell the world) is a set up for the Mad Hatter, Mr Freese or Mr Reese is the Riddler. We all know that Nolan has renamed Gordons wife. Who is to stop him from doing it to other characters?
Although Bruce Wayne by anyother name would NOT be as sweet.
There are so many possible tie in’s like you said though. They could make another 4 movies with that alone.
Then again there might be something all together different.
I still remember Fox telling Wayne that the new suit will stop a cat when he asks if it will help against dogs which I found EXTREMELY strange which leads to the Catwoman.
I really wish that they would reprise her character so everyone can forget about the vomit worthy Halle Berry (Non Batman) version.
Can’t wait either way though.

ok folks. Joker will be in the first 15 min or so, and it will be heath from past filimings. then gordon will kill him or even batman. good cgi should deliver this making it real looking. then here comes the mad hatter fucking over gotham. poison ivy shows up and fucks batman while gotham rots. robin shows up stoned as shoots both of em in revenge. mad hatter kills gotham. the end.

The first thing is there will not be a robin in the next batman film. How ever we could see him appear in the 4th one. I think they could use some of the stuff heath did in the dark knight at the begging of the new batman. Apparentley there is a scene that they shot for the dark knight where the joker kills himself. so at the begging of the first film they might show that scene. i think reese and the bank mager will play huge part in the new batman reese will be the ventriliquist and the bank manger will be the riddler. I think the mayor will turn to these two to bring down batman and gives them power but then they abuse the power and cause anarkhy in gotham. This is when the mayor turns to batman to help. After the people of gotham find out that the mayor hired riddler and ventriliquise he is kicked out office he blames this all on batman and he tturn into the penguin for the 4 th movie. Also i wouldnt be surprised if two face and rachel dawes appear in the 4 th one but rachel comes back as catwoman and then all 3 of them try to take down batman and he needs help this is where gordons son comes into help as knight wing this way the films are keeping darker as well. for me the guy who plays john conor in the sarah conor chronicals could take up the role of knight wing

hey i’m just wandering do you think that its possible that when Two-Face was tackled off the building, that his coin landing on the lighter side was Nolan hinting towards us that he wasn’t dead?
Comment by Mal — August 24, 2008 @ 6:28 am
Bane in the comics is muscle and brian, He is the only villian to actually beat batman. and that wasn’t because of his muscle it was because of his planning.
Comment by mikey — August 25, 2008 @ 7:56 am
What i think is that the dark knight has been nolan’s greatest movie, and so for the batman sequels. Now people talking of # 3 nolan is a very misterious man and i’am sure he will do a hell of a job, neither penguin or catwoman will appear. But keep your guesses to ridler and 2 face, But let’s face none of them will cause the BOOM of Heath Ledgers performance, the greatest i’ve seen in years or in a Batmain film. R.I.P.
Comment by Miguel Estepan — August 26, 2008 @ 10:14 pm
I do believe that there should be more than one villain, possibly two or three and a female villain. As far as the villains go I think Bane would be great and the Riddler, however I also think The Mad Hatter would be amazing. He is so clever, he can almost outwit batman and in the comics has done so in some cases.
For the female villains Ra Al Ghul’s daughter Talia Al Ghul would be perfect, she has been batman’s only true love and is now the leader of The League of Shadows. Absolute perfect fit.
Comment by Dirk Pitt — August 27, 2008 @ 5:16 am
Primary Villain: Ewan McGregor as Hush / Dr. Thomas Elliot
Secondary Villain: Rachel McAdams as Catwoman / Selina Kyle
Mob Villain: Brendan Gleeson as Anthony Zucco
My reasons:
Hush is a sinister reminder of what Batman could have become and didn’t which leads to Batman’s redemption in his own eyes.
Hush can have a hatred for the upper echelon of society (Ala his own parents who died in accident when he was young) and batman stops him, redeeming himself in the publics eyes. Also a connection to the memory of Rachel as they were all childhood friends.
Catwomans presence makes him question his own rules and whether he’s willing to compromise and whether he should due to his attraction. She also fills the gap left by Rachel.
Brendan Gleeson would make a great mob boss and none of these three actors would be actors whose names would overpower the rest of the cast.
Ewan and Rachel are both a similar age to Christian Bale so it works perfectly. Plus they are all solid actors.

hi Slugboy5,
how does the memory of the joker come into your version of what the third batman movie should be about. Even through the tragic passing of Ledger, they cant rule out a appearance by him, he is batmans #1 villain after all.
thanks mate.
Finch
Comment by Finch — August 27, 2008 @ 3:50 pm
Good point Finch, the Joker definitely needs a mention if not an appearance. You could even have him as a Hannibal Lecter style villain, but that would probably be too obvious. I would have him break out and feature a small appearance (more than scarecrow in TDK though) so that he could “Kill” Thomas Elliot and then be put back in jail, with Batman almost going over the edge and beating him close to death. That can lead into the reveal that Harvey Dent has been cured by Hush in a meeting in arkham where Harvey decides to defend the Joker due to his innocence in killing Thomas Elliot.
Just an early idea, but that’s probably how I’d do it. I’ll probably look back at this post when Nolan’s next Batman film comes out and shake my head in disdain at how superior his vision is.
Oh well.
Comment by Slugboy5 — August 28, 2008 @ 3:23 am
haha, nice points, but im still a bit ‘iffy’ about having a strong appearance by the joker, no one wants a different person to play the joker, thats why i put forward the motion that he should be a ’shadow’ character…using the voice fo Ledger (because with these actors, they record much more audio than intended for movies) and use a stand in or facial recognition.
Comment by Finch — August 28, 2008 @ 5:03 am
if they do recast the joker they need to bring harley quinn into the movie
Comment by frank — September 4, 2008 @ 1:10 am
please, no harley quinn in the films.
Comment by fernando — September 4, 2008 @ 9:36 am
did someone mention rachel dawes being saved by dark wing duck?
Comment by fernando — September 4, 2008 @ 9:38 am
no…
ok, why cant harley quinn be in the film fernando???
Comment by Finch — September 4, 2008 @ 9:40 am
cos as far as i see it fernando, Harley Quinn is the best fit to have an appearance by The Joker and she even fits into the story herself by starting as the psychiatrist.
Comment by Finch — September 4, 2008 @ 9:50 am
thanks for not giving me “f” bombs for having a difference of opinion which usualy happens on these fan boy sites…anyway.
I just see no room for “sidekicks” in this Christopher Nolan universe.
I guess she could work if…Well, we saw the Joker’s manipulative powers. He can seduce and manipulate her to do his bidding an use her for awhile and then kill her when she is of no use anymore…she could be a sad trajedy-victim.
but quinn as a true acomplice, i do not want to see that. it just seems bonnie and clydish and tacky.
Comment by fernando — September 4, 2008 @ 10:31 am
fair point.
the only thing is, she’s not the sidekick if she appears…the joker is in arkham asylum, therefore, after the manipulation of his psychiatrist and the creation of Harley Quinn, we have a sinister and sexy villain that will play a second villain - definitely not the main villain.
but yeah, we dont mean to give u crap about ur opinion, you are entitled to it mate.

GOD NO!!!
I was reading one of my ‘weekly’ mags that I buy and it mentioned that CHER will play catwoman!!
WTF is Nolan thinking?
According to the magazine it reads
“Cher is set to play Catwoman in the sequal to The Dark Knight. According to the UK’s Daily Telegraph, director Christopher Nolan is keen to sign the 62 year old superstar because he wants to portray Catwoman as ‘a vamp in her twilight years’.”
Holy Hell Batman DON’T DO IT!!
I think if this is true we are going to see Batman 3 mirror ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ comic book which is set slightly in the future.
Time will tell..
For once I hope I am wrong though.
Comment by Purr — September 4, 2008 @ 2:38 pm
WTF!
thats going to suck…there is only a very slim chance of Nolan making something out of using Cher.
unfortuantly, im not for it
Comment by Finch — September 4, 2008 @ 2:40 pm
…and it looks like he’s casted Johnny Depp as the riddler…
WORST DECISION EVER!
Johnny depp is a great actor, and make an amazing role of jack sparrow, but playing something comepletely different again, this movie is unfortuantly looking to be a box office FAILURE!
Comment by Finch — September 4, 2008 @ 2:44 pm
Nolan is a genius. This will be a box office triumph. He realy thinks outside of the box.
