Warner Bros. Secrecy pays off with The Dark Knight

Warner Bros. worked very hard on the build up to The Dark Knight movie. The movie was cloaked by secrecy in an effort to thwart pirates, and it looks as though their hard work paid off.

Warner Bros. knew that their task would be difficult as we are in an age with instantaneous digital copying, which is available on the Internet quickly. It is movies just like The Dark Knight summer blockbuster that is targeted by pirates.

Warner Bros. knew that people would want cheap copies of their new Batman movie, as it has been hyped for months. The main reason why the movie has been hyped is the outstanding performance that the late Heath Ledger put in as The Joker.

Warner Bros. spent six months on the build up to The Dark Knight in an unprecedented anti-piracy strategy. The movie was locked down as it moved from production to post-production to movie theaters.

Warner Bros. had a chain of custody, so they were able to track who had access to the film at any one time. Warner also conducted spot checks at cinemas to make sure that no one was recording the movie on a camcorder. In some cinemas night-vision goggles were given to staff, to try and catch people out.

Warner did say that the extra vigilance paid off.
