Beijing Olympic Soccer: Nigeria defeats United Stated

When it comes to soccer or football as many nations call it, the United States is not exactly right up there with the rest of the world. This was evident in the Beijing Olympics as Nigeria beat the U.S. team 2-1.

The United States soccer team needed to beat Nigeria, but now they are sent home disappointed with their performance. Nigeria has now won Group B, thanks to their 2-1 win over the U.S and the fact that the Netherlands defeated Japan, 1-0.

The United States team knew that winning was a tall order as they did not have midfielder Michael Bradley and attacking midfielder Freddy Adu. Both players had been suspended.

The U.S. team was only playing with ten men after Michael Orozco was sent off for elbowing forward Solomon Okoronkwo in the sternum. It was not done with enough force to cause damage, but you could tell that it was deliberate.

At least we know that that is one less medal that the United States will be taking home.
