The first five days of the Beijing Olympics have been taken up by the swimming and a number of other not so popular sports. But on Friday that is all about to change because as Michael Phelps goes for his sixth gold medal, that is when the track and field events start.
I have enjoyed watching some of the Beijing Olympics like the rowing, but it is the track and field events that I enjoy most. And The Birds Nest is almost ready for the start. I can’t wait to see what the crowd will be like once they are packed into the stadium to watch the greatest sporting event on earth.
There are so many great track and field events to choose from that it is sometimes hard to pick a favorite. If I did have to choose, then I think I would have to go for the 100 meters as well as the javelin.
The big question that people will want to know is will the U.S. be able to dominate the track and field events like they have done over the years.
I am a little sad at the thought that Great Britain does not stand much of a chance of any medals in most of the track and field events. It seems like a lifetime ago since we had a number of world class athletes that we knew were certain to win a medal or two.
