China has not won the amount of medals in total that the U.S. has won, but China has won the most gold medals, 22 to Americans 13. Gold is the all important thing when it comes to the Olympics and it is that which could spell disaster for the U.S. team.
For four straight Olympic Summer Games in a row the U.S. team have been victorious, but that could all change as China continues their surge to end the Domination of the American squad.
China has been competing in some great events for them in the first week, but the U.S. will amount their attack today as the Track and Field events get under way. It is in these events where the U.S. will excel.
However the U.S. will not have it easy at Beijing, in Athens four years ago both U.S. and China were tied on 14 gold medals at the end of the sixth day, China ending the games just four gold medals behind. This means that the U.S. was only able to gain four more of the Chinese. This will be a tall order for them this year as they trail China by 9 gold medals.
One thing is certain, we are all set for a great second week in Beijing.
