It was no surprise that Usain Bolt, the Jamaican sprinter won the 100 meter sprint taking gold as well as setting a new world record, and we have a video from the BBC showing us how easy he made it.
Bolt has won the race in the first 60 meters and to my surprise he had a little look round towards the end of the race and realized that there was no one there, so he just shut down. How anyone can shut down in a 100 meter sprint at the Olympics and still set a new world record. He set a new world record time of 9.69 seconds.
Richard Thompson of Trinidad and Tobago came in second with Walter Dix, the American coming in third. However they seemed to be in a totally different race, as they were a long way behind Usain Bolt.
Bolt said after the race “My one aim was just to be a champion. That is what I came here to do.” He also added “I told you I was going to be number one and I did just that. I got a great start. I was getting good starts all the way up to the final. I was getting better and better.”
Bolt is Jamaica’s first men’s 100m Olympic champion. The amazing thing about the race is how he started to celebrate just 15 meters from the line. Bolt said that he did not mean to be disrespectful, he was just very happy that he had won.
