Sarah Palin’s Earrings and John McCain on Hurricane Gustav

As we know Mississippi is facing a national disaster, so you would have thought that when John McCain and Sarah Palin would have shown a little respect. Well it seems that many people were not happy at how McCain’s new VP Palin had decided to dress. People have been saying that her hoop earrings were disrespectful.

People have had a lot to say about this on the Alt House Blog. One reader went as far as saying “who doesn’t want to get in touch with their trashy side every now and again. Has no one here ever been invited to a White Trash Party? The trailer trash business is just going to make her more identifiable.”

It does make you wonder why people are posting snotty remarks; it is as if they are driven by fear. One blogger did put it simple, “Palin is a female Obama. She has her earrings, he has his flag pin. She has pot, he has coke. I could go on and on.”

What does it matter what kind of earrings a women wears, why does it mean that she is being branded trailer trash. What Palin wears does not affect how she will perform as a future Vice President of the United States.

Do you think that Sarah Palin is too low class to be Vice President, is she trailer trash?

  1. I am a Ron Paul Supporter. I think this is stupid. I could care less about her earrings. Will she support the Constitution? End the federal Reserve? End illegal income tax. Restore Constitutional limits on government. End the War on Drugs? Restore our boarders and immigration controls? Obama, Biden, McSame and Palin do not represent change for this country.

Read The Revolution by Ron Paul and get a glimpse of what these bloggers, talkingheads, and the mainstream media are ignoring.

  2. Another example of the things a woman running for office has to deal with that a man does not. Sexism, plain and simple.

BTW, cannot compare the pot and coke as pot was decriminalized for personal use for a time in Alaska, which is when she tried. it. To the best of my knowledge, cocaine is still illegal.

  3. Hmmm, what does
1–all up in my sisters divorce to white trash cop husband
2–getting said sisters white trash cop exhusband fired, or not so much, but I tried
    3–pregnant teenage daughter
4–ultra conservative right wing gun lover
5–big hoop earrings and long hair on a 44 year old soon to be grandma

all add up to–trailer trash and not someone I want representing me and my country.

Not to mention the fact that she needs to get herself back to her home and take care of her kids including her son about to leave for war, her pregnant teenage daughter, her 4 month old special needs baby and her two other impressionable young girls. Get some priorities in your life sister.

  4. OH MY Gosh……..unreal! Do you want a VP that is so concerned with her style and hoop or no hoop earrings? How shallow! She is there to work…….not dress for a modeling event! She has a brain you dingbats! Anyway, what is wrong with her hoop earrings? OH………YOU don’t like em! So what………..you must be sitting on your brain!

  5. I thought, at this level, they have people who dress them to ensure the clothing conveys the right message and is right for the occasion. The company I work for is conscious about the professional image its employees project and so jewelry is limited to watches, wedding bands, and small stud earrings for females. The fact that people noticed her earrings means that she shouldn’t have worn them. And I have to admit that I don’t particularly care for her up-do hairstyle; it reminds me of the prom and the fact that she was a beauty contestant. All these things have to do with image and can amount to the same thing as an untucked shirt. You would be conscious of all these things in an interview and that is what these press conferences are.

  6. Carolin–my God, do you you people really exist? Why did no one tell Bidden to stay home with his children after their mother and brother died in a car accident? Where are all the feminists I walked with? I am ashamed to have been associated with the likes any of them. I am ashamed of the media as I was raised to believe that journalists had intergrity–that national newspaper were not “rags” like the Enquirer…

And to call a respectable, responsible woman, holding a government office that she EARNED by beating out the good old boys in her OWN PARTY–white trash–you should be ashamed of yourself. I pray to God that you didn’t reproduce…

Sorry she did not advise her daughter to get an abortion, sorry the boy is taking responsibility by marrying, sorry Palin wears her hair like most of middle America that has long hair…

The most telling pointof your comments is criticizing her earrings…obviously you have little intelligence to be reduced to a comment like that

  8. Dear “lovemyUSA”,

Yes, we all know that only the ultra conservative republicans are patriotic and love their country, (that is sarcasm in case you didn’t get it), we know this because “you all” tell us all the time.

My IQ runs in the 140’s, maybe down to 135 if I’m having a tired day.

I haven’t reproduced, I’m leaving that up to all you precious holier than thou conservatives. I wouldn’t want to litter the planet with people that know how to think for themselves. I probably will adopt an orphan at some point in my life and give them a nice home, will that be okay with you?

Maybe someone did tell Joe Bidden to stay home with his kids after the accident, I don’t know, do you?

Putting your family and kids with special needs and special situations ahead of career isn’t anti-feminist, it’s called having the correct priorities.

If you are so upset with the media, you should stay tuned to fox, they won’t let you down.

I’m not ashamed of saying that she looks like trailer trash with those big hoop earrings when she is in the world spotlight, I call it like I see it, and I am embarrassed that people around the world see her looking like that as a representative of an achieved American woman.
Your right, I shouldn’t have said white trash, that is mean and disrespectful, I should have just said she looks trashy and has a trashy sounding background. I’ve learned my lesson, thank you.

I would never advise anyone to get an abortion, and would never get one myself. I think the people that want to teach kids abstinence only need to take a reality check and adjust their unrealistic position. I have a lot of compassion and well wishes for her daughter, especially since her mom isn’t going to be around to support her during the late stages of her pregnancy…back to the priorities point.

And darling, please don’t waste your prayers on me not reproducing or anything else about me, instead pray the Gov. Palin returns to Alaska where she belongs and can spend more time with her young family, even while she maintains her Governorship. I believe she is intelligent and really hope she soon realizes where her priorities should stand.

Oh, and if you type my name again, please spell it correctly.

    Caroline, Georgia :)

P.S. I am an independent who was most likely going to vote for John McCain because I respect him as a person, but certainly I will not vote for him with this snide, smug, divisive witch on this ticket.

  9. “she needs to get herself back to her home and take care of her kids” - I can’t believe this comment was made by a woman. Sounds more like something a very sexist man would say.

    Comment by Rick, Alabama — September 5, 2008 @ 10:53 pm

  10. Caroline, sorry I misspelled your name, typo’s happen to the best of us. I am also an independent, was in the woman’s movement in the 70’s, and have had an abortion before I realized that it really was a baby and not a blob of tissue that I killed. I don’t preach a holier than thou lifestyle to anyone. I believe in a woman’s “informed” choice.

One thing I am not, is an elitist like you, thumbing your nose at a woman who has achieved more in her lifetime than Obama has in his, simply because her “wardrobe” doesn’t fit your idea of what a “smart and stylish” career woman should wear. I remember people making fun of Hillary when she came to the white house from the governor’s mansion and wore headbands…

While what people wear in Alaska, and in small town America, may be at odds with your style quotient as a reference for qualifying as a candidate–I’m sure she will learn to be more pretentious to meet your “high” standards, as the campaign evolves.

Obviously you have not seen many conventions to know–(even with your high IQ)–that conventions attack the other party as well as promote their candidate–and I have been watching conventions since the 60’s. Palin didn’t veer from the standard fare of conventions–she just hit close to home–showing that she wasn’t the “rube” you, and all the other Obamaton’s thought she was. After what had been written about her and her family for over a week, she showed that she has the intelligence and fortitude to be able to stand up to the garbage thrown at her. She flicked it off her shoulder–as Obama did to Hillary.

As far as putting family first, it’s interesting that you would say that this is something only a “woman” should do. That you would suggest that a capable, intelligent, woman, with a large extended family support system, should NOT continue in her career, is beyond absurb, as well as sexist. Why wasn’t Edward’s villified for continuing his campaign upon hearing of his wife’s cancer? Of course, we found out about his “family values”, didn’t we?

I suppose that only someone who is as intelligent as you think you are, would use the excuse of “earrings”, and the fact that she is a “mother”, to qualify whether Palin is qualified to run for office.

  11. Palin is white trash but that doesn’t matter because she LOVES GOD and GUN and has 5 kids +1, therefore, so no right wing ‘value’ voters can term away from her.

  12. White trash…. A husband with no education, she attended 6 different colleges and it has never been confirmed that she has graduated from any college, a pregnant teenage daughter….I do not want this person representing me or this country in the world. Please. We had 8 years of a president who could not even speak English and now this……… Stop the insanity……….

  13. Caroline, Have you considered that maybe Mrs Palin is running for the office of VP, instead of being home with her family, in order to change the world in which they live? Maybe she actually did join/run for the organizations/offices she did - including the one she is running for now - because she wants to make a difference in her children’s future.

I think it’s sad people have been reduced to making “pot shots” at Mrs Palin’s wardrobe. Kudos on bringing up Mrs Clinton’s wardrobe, lovemyUSA - I remember the snide remarks and less-than-kind comments lavished upon Mrs Clinton when she arrived in Washington. Funny how people’s interest in her wardrobe declined as her intelligence became apparent.

Rather than focusing on what sex or color a candidate is, why not focus on them as PEOPLE, and choose the pair you feel will represent you the best. I’m much more concerned about the issues and where the candidates stand on those issues, than what color Mr Obama’s shirt is, or whether Mrs Palin is wearing her hair up or down.

I think it’s great we have opened up the pool of candidates to include more of a selection than the typical middle aged, wealthy, white man. And if one or both candidates choose to add a little “oomph!” to their wardrobe, or has a great collection of ________ (pins, shoes, ties, earrings, etc) they wish to show off or “be known by”, I say GO FOR IT! It livens up the campaign, gives people something a little more lighthearted to talk about, and makes the candidate seem more human.

Besides, I always thought the presidential race (or the race for any office) is about ISSUES…not FASHION. (Even though I think Mrs Palin is beautiful and shouldn’t change a thing…including her great hoop earrings or her professional - but not stiffly polished - chignon.)

  14. Ummm…why do Americans keep voting for “people just like them”?

I for one, would prefer my leader to be more knowledgeable and more intelligent than I am. There are only a handful of people out there that fit this description, but Palin sure isn’t one of them.

From you neighbouring country, (and no, it is not Russia, it’s Canada)

  15. Wait a min. —-> Is this God that wrote this? No, couldn’t be, God wouldn’t act like this…………….However, a very small person with little achievement and a pea brain would consider this relevant! I would love to see you challenge Mr. Todd Palin or even compare to the man he is and his intelligence level, the job he does requires much more experience and brains than you ever thought of learning in a college buddy! 6 Colleges……….whew weee………big flippin deal……..holy moly!
Of course you don’t want her representing you……….she doesn’t have affairs on her husband like most in the past have in the white house, she doesn’t even talk like they do, she is a damned fine woman and you have got to be gay, a devil worshiper or something that I cannot relate to. So…………..shut up and go home and maybe read a book like………Intelligent People, How to become one!
I am a white, new york raised and born, Alaskan woman who has watched and applauded Sarah Palin all the way………..She is a phenomenal woman and I wish you all could have the opportunity to meet her face to face and her husband and call her white trash then>
You wouldn’t cause you could never, in your little computer chair writing this……..ever go as far as she has,,,,,,,,,,never will, cause you have way too much intelligence? You should run for President or VP……..
    Jerkoff!
    Muah!
