2008 Nobel Peace Prize awarded to Martti Ahtisaari

The 2008 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to former Finnish president and IRA weapons inspector Martti Ahtisaari, for his peace mediation work. The Norwegian Nobel Committee stated that Astisaari was recognized for his important efforts.
Martti Ahtisaari’s work has had an impact on a number of continents for over three decades, where he has helped to resolve international conflicts. It is these efforts that have helped to bring peace to a number of countries around the globe.
For winning the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize, Ahtisaari walks away with €1 million prize money. The money will be handed to him in Oslo on December 10, this is the anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel who created the awards. Martti Ahtisaari, 71 was one hopeful out of a list of 197 candidates.
