500 jobs go at NBC Universal

NBC News and the other sections of NBC Universal have to lay off 500 workers; this is 3% of their work force. These include 50 jobs going at the local media group and another 70 going on the Universal side of things.

Those jobs will be in the studio as well as the parks and distribution. 30 more jobs will be going at NMC News and another 80 positions at CNBC, they will also be idling “The Big Idea With Donny Deutsch.”

The correspondents who are being let go are Don Teague and Mark Mullen; it is thought that more jobs will be going in the Los Angeles and Burbank bureau. The job cuts are part of NBC Uni chief Jeff Zucker’s plan to cut $500 million from the company.
