Manny Ramirez, the Los Angeles Dodgers has tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs. The Major League Baseball star has been suspended for 50 games for taking these performance-enhancing drugs. Ramirez said in a statement that the positive test resulted from taking medication and not from steroids.
The MLB star has waived his right to challenge the suspension. Ramirez’s suspension begins Thursday night; it will also cost him about a third of his $25 million salary for the year. Manny should return to his team on July 3.
The New York Times says that this tough decision shows that the baseball’s tough drug program is working, but it seems to have tarnished one of the sports best sluggers. Ramirez is not the only player to have proved positive for taking performance-enhancing drugs; others include Alex Rodriguez, Barry Bonds and Mark McGwire. Unlike Ramirez, these players did not receive a ban.
