Would you like a new Star Trek TV Series?
If you go back about a year we all thought that Star Trek was a dead franchise, the last few movies tanked at the box office, as the fans alone were not enough to keep the franchise going. If you ever want to bring something back from the dead you need to do something extra special, and that is what J.J Abrams has done with the new Star Trek movie. The question is, is it now time to bring Star Trek back to the small screen with a new TV series.

Since Star Trek: The Original Series, we have seen a number of other spin offs, such as The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise. TNG was a bit of a letdown as there was never enough action; well Picard was a bit of a diplomat. DS9 was great and got better towards the end, but Voyager had to be the best as the mix was right. Oh yea I forget about Enterprise, that show did not do that great, I thought it was good, but that might have been because of a certain Vulcan woman.

A few years ago, we did hear rumors that a new Star Trek spin off would be on the horizon. The new TV show was going to go in a different direction, and that is by following the side of the Klingons instead of Starfleet. I am not sure if that would have worked, so which direction would they go in this time.

I just saw the movie. They set themselves up for an amazing new series. They would start all over from the beginning and have a different future timeline thanks to the movie plot. It’s the essence of the original crew on very attractive and talented young actors. I believe it would create a new generation of trekies. My vote is an emphatic YES!

I have not seen the movie yet, promised the girlfriend I would see it with her! But I believe now is a very very good time to start up a new series. There is hype around the film and if a wider audience likes it and also keeps us trekkies happy then it can only be a winner. The impotent thing would be to make sure you get it right with cast and director and persuade J.J Abrams to get involved. Lets us boldly go!

Well I have to chime in. I have been a huge fan since TOS, I really do think this movie was a break thru and I think the direction that they have taken this story will prove perfect for a new series( they could even restore the old original time line at the end?). JJ and crew got the casting perfect for these main characters. If they could do fewer episodes and concentrate on Quality say ten to thirteen a year, then I could see this as a new series, then after 4 or 5 years they could make more great movies. This cast is young and could easily do this and give new fans and old something to cheer about AND reserect this old star trek thing. I hope they include some remakes of some of the key old series episodes and mix in some entirely new ones now that the time-line is upset, it would be very entertaining indeed. I especially like how JJ mixed in that old campy space cowboy feel without making it overly dramatic. Good fight scenes like in the original, gratuitous sex and drinking by the characters make this very similar so far. The music was dramatic and that is good as are the old style sound effects from the TOS. The added humor derived from the great character acting is also much like the original actors and what they brought to trek back in the 60s. Wow, bravo JJ Abrams you go boy!

I love the ideal but only more of the original Star Trek characters are involved. And in the next movie.
