It was meant to be the NASCAR Coca Cola 600 yesterday, but rain put a stop to it and it was postponed until Monday. According to The Washington Post, it was announced before a single lap was even run.
The 43 drivers had only just been introduced to the crowd of over 140,000 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, when suddenly the sky went dark and the heavens opened and drenched the 1.5 mile superspeedway.
Officials then announced at 8.30pm that the race, which is the longest NASCAR race of the year, would be postponed. The 2004 NASCAR champion Kurt Busch said “This will really have everyone scratching their heads, that’s for sure.”
Conditions would have changed on the track, as the rain would have washed away the accumulated tire rubber from the track, therefore altering the car’s handling. Apparently it is the first time that the race has been postponed.
