Should Callum Francis Been in Britain's Got Talent 2009 Final?
We were shocked to learn yesterday that 12-year-old singer Callum Francis did not make it to Saturdays Britain’s Got Talent 2009 Final. Last night we saw saxophonist Julian Smith win the public vote, with 2 Grand and Callum Francis coming second and third.

Should Callum Francis Been in Britain’s Got Talent 2009 Final?

It was up to the judges, and they decided to go with the family act. Although they did add that Callum’s performance from The Jungle Book movie was brilliant, Simon stating that it was one of his best movies of all time.

2 grand who features John and Sally sang Somewhere Out There, the movie from An American Tale, as expected Amanda Holden was reduced to tears. The Sun said that when it came to choosing the act who Simon Cowell wanted to put through, he said, “Based on the fact one of you doesn’t really have much of a second shot at this, I’m going for 2 Grand.”

*Should Callum Francis Been in Britain’s Got Talent 2009 Final?* Is that a complete sentence? Fabia Cerra should have been in the BGT 2009 Final.

  • mel

yes he should have got through

  • Moya

Callum will make it and make a career out of singing and dancing without this publicity show – he will def make a splash in the west end very soon i think

  • GAvison

Certainly Callum should have gone through to the finals. The judges said as such after his performance – Amanda saying people would have to answer to her if they did not vote for him. Simon Fuller also said he should be in the final, but when the vote came neither voted for him. To be honest I would not trust any of them – they are only involved in it to booster their own egos. Simon says he is not in it for the money!!! What a joke. Still hopefully young Callum should have a great future regardless of this competition.

  • Tubsy

I think it’s a complete joke that Callum did not get chosen to be in the final. This is a TALENT show not an ‘old people and young people show’!!!!! Just letting off steam…

  • Sandra

I loved Julian Smith, is this a new type of Saxophone? Sounds and looks similar to a clarinet. He would brilliant on a relaxation cd.

  • BGTwatcher

I agree completely Tubsy. Frankly, thanks to the judges, this year’s been rather a dissapointment – the judges themselves have been too affected by the class and position the acts are in (Susan Boyle, 2 Grand, The 72-year old disco dancer) and instead of looking at the talent, take into consideration what the actual people are like – which is what they are hired NOT to do! This is a talent show and nothinbg else – Susan Boyle is not the best singer, 2 Grand unfortunately are not as good as callum francis and as for the dancer – seriously? All he did was roaly-poaly and waves his legs in the air – not exactly the most talented thing I’ve ever seen, frankly. I’m not saying I could judge as well as the three current judges but i think that they’re slipping in their standards.

agreed to all above and now we have tonight . Excellent voice but should she have had a second chance . Would any of the others have had a second chance . Amazing that she stopped crying as soon as Simon started speaking and is everyone allowed to have their mothers on stage . Is she going to do this again

  • elizabeth

this little girl wonderful voice but does every one get a second chance get their mothers on stae I also noticed that she stopped crying as soon as Simon started speaking. Wil she do all this again .

I am upset that Callum did not to the finals. He is a great perfomer. I am worried that due to his parents financial problems he stopped attending Sylvia Young
School. I hope that somebody will be generous and pay for his acting education

  • Ruth

I don’t really care wether or not he got though to the final but he was definitely better than 2 grand. He also comes off as quite showy and a bit “fake”, though..if you can really say that about a kid. He seems as though he’s constantly acting and putting on that goofy smile he does. Who really naturally smiles and rolls their head around all the time like that? He looks as though he has been trained for the stage. When you do theatre, you’re told to smile so big that even the people in the cheapest seats can see you.

And I just saw his Dad, who happens to look like Mr T, on BBC News wearing a tshirt with Callum on that says “Britain’s Cheekiest Grin”. Eh?

Amanda’s comments did not match her actions – of course what was really wrong was to have made the comment “if you dont get into the final they will have me to answer to” – it was a stupid thing to say when she had not yet heard all the acts – how let down he must feel when the person who said she would defend his right to go through actually prevented it in favour of the charming grandfather/grandaughter act – in my view the final judges vote disenfranchises the home audience who may well have put Callum thousands of votes ahead of the other two. It is just about promoting them and makes this part of the competition very unfair.

  • Jane

I thing that he was by far the best young act and the fact that he really enjoyed singing made everyone listerning to it feel happy. Very good luck to you Callum and your family

  • Walter

Callum should certainly be in final. I agree with the comment that both Simon and Amanda backed him in their comments and then voted for another act.

Sorry to disagree but I didnt rate his voice so great. There are hundreds of kids like him and many better taking part in Amature stage productions up and down the country.

2 Grand were miles better and Callum’s voice is not a patch on Sallie’s. The judges got it right.

Callum’s voice will break and it will be all be a memory. 2 Grand may not actually win BGT but they will get plenty of work and Sallie has a great long term future ahead of her in the business.

My Verdict: Seen so many kids sing so many songs better than him. Not bad but forgotten within a few days

  • charlie

I can’t believe people actually took a liking to the precocious creature Callum on the show. That hideous grin that he put on and overdid because he thought it was so cute. He had my toes curling

  • http://inentertainment.co.uk Pete C

Mine too Charlie totally agree with you. I can only think Jane’s hearing is a little suspect if she truly believes Callum was the best young act ? Holly was a million times better as were several others that never even made it as far as Callum.

I am sure he will do well in Amateur productions but win BGT??? Sorry but ‘Cute’ and Cheesy smiles did not win it. TALENT won it

  • Clive

Precociousness is an endearing quality for a child entertainer to have. Yes there are technically better singers and dancers but the cheekiness and the grin is an important part particularly for a stage audience who do not have the unforgiving close ups of television.
There should be a childrens version, or section, where they at least know that one child will win. Of course that makes it difficult for mixed age acts like the greek father and son so I am not sure what the answer is.

  • Clive

Oh and with Two Grand the girl had a sweet voice but as people here have said about Callum there are better around – and whilst I do think it is lovely that two far generations do this together the other half of the act would not have got past the first audition on his own. I quite hope that she matures and tries again next year as a solo artiste – Callum is destined for the west end stage because he has the drive and enthusiasm and a magical something

  • Paul McStay

Callum Francis should of course have been selected for the britains got talent final. He was a hell of a lot better than some of the acts that were put through. After his great jungle book song I was very disappointed to hear that he was not going forward.

Have just seen him this morning on CBBC television trailers. It isn’t clear if these were recorded before or after BGT BUT, these are NEW trailers, so it’s probable that the exposure of BGT has helped him along the way.

  • Sally

sorry, but i think its wrong that your saying such harsh stuff about a young boy, over the interenet, you should be ashamed. And i know him personally and his smile is not “hideous” or “cheesy”
