US Reaction: Susan Boyle finale performance, Britain’s Got Talent

It would be interesting to see what the outcome of Britain’s Got Talent 2009 finale would have been if the United States were allowed to vote. We are sure Susan Boyle would have taken the crown.

US Reaction: Susan Boyle finale performance, Britain’s Got Talent

Why does the U.S. love Susan Boyle so much? Is it because Susan Boyle received more attention from the U.S. media or is it a different attitude towards Susan?

The U.S reaction to the British Press has not been good, they feel that Susan Boyle was given a really hard time and that may have gone against her in Britain’s Got Talent 2009. Did the British public fall out of love with her after the negative press?

You can watch Susan Boyle’s finale performance here in another post; the video is below the post. Have a watch if you have not seen it yet and if you’re from the U.S., let us know your reaction to the Britain’s Got Talent finale and Susan Boyle losing.

What she has done, is the right thing… Whatever the -ve hype was created by the media. She just defeated it all..

To me, her loosing the 1st spot is nothing…cause this was a talent hunt show, not a singer hunt show.she off coarse is the best singer found…. So I would say that Diversity did well, they got talent ( for sure) but thats a dance group…. So Boyle came first in her style.. that is pure singing and then beating the critics wrong, made her an even bigger performer..

Waiting for you in US :)

Susan Boyle’s a great talent, and the idea that a second place showing will stop her is ridiculous.

The only thing that can stop her is if the pressure is too much. I’d understand that, but it’d be very sad. There are so many stage roles that are perfect for her voice and even her looks: What about “I Walked Through A Storm” from Carousel?

I’m sorry Susan Boyle didn’t sing something other than “I Dreamed A Dream” in the finals. Retreating to her comfort zone was a sad cop out.

Regroup, Susan, and keep on going!

SUSAN….you sang the music girl!!! Now come to America and sing your heart out…we love you !!!!

    Cheers,

    Michael

Susan won the singing, Diversity won the dance and they are two different artists. The show produced talents and not just a talent. I am an African who followed the show from Africa. SUSAN BOYLE has thought us that the whole world can conspire against you but so long as you keep your faith you are destine to be a winner. Now I know that I am not yet a failure until there is no more life in me.

In an emerging world of hopelessness, despair, vanity and anguish SUSAN emerged to reassure us that all is not lost. She is a combination of Lincoln and Churchill in our world of music. GOD bless you SUSAN !!!

I think Susan Boyle should of won !!! She may of came in second place…. but Susan Boyle is FIRST PLACE in our Hearts here in the U.S. I believe the British press tore her apart unmercifully. We appreciate a talent such as Susan’s, and here in America…. We do not call someone who is a unmarried woman of 47, a spinster, like they do in England. The term has been throw out of our vocabulary since the 1950′s ! I think England needs a bit of more America in them…. more heart and soul. We love you Susan Boyle, you are beautiful inside and out !!!

You are correct about Susan Fawad K, this was blown way out of proportion–Susan is our heroine, she is one of US, the real people, with a fine talent and gift.

Diversity are fine and deserving, but SUSAN should be given the gift of SINGING for QUEEN Elizabeth and a DVD contract!!!

Go for it Susan! Your dream will come true, don’t let the “buzzards get you down”!

  • Malcolm Fulcher

Susan, you are the winner, hands down! If that voice cannot trump a bunch of dancers doing I’m not sure what, then I can sing which obviously I cannot. You were wonderful and we look forward to more. Simon was not the only one with a tear in the eye. Words do not do justice to your performance, only listen and enjoy!

We here in the US can’t believe that the people in the UK would put a act like Diversity before Julian Smith or Susan Boyle. Is Diversity the type of entertainment that you put in front of your QUEEN?

We have more class in the US. We would put Julian Smith, Susan Boyle or Mr Potts in front of our President. It looks like GB people have NO class or taste when it comes to entertainment.

I am saddened by Susan’s loss.

True, the young dancers in “Diversity” certainly showed lots of energy and skill. Maybe in Britain such dancing is more unique and not a very common part of TV, films and other such entertainment. However, here in the U.S. such dancing is quite common and imitated in numerous ways in many dance performances by a goodly number of talented dancers. So, while I could admire the performance, it didn’t move me in the same way Susan’s performance did.

Granted, Susan’s story and ordinariness adds spice to her singing. Nevertheless, she does sing at least as well and even better than some other performers I’ve heard here in the U.S.

I can’t help but think that the negative publicity spread by the tabloid press in Britain influenced the home viewers who voted against Susan by voting for “Diversity”.

I do hope that Susan will have the opportunity to do more with her talent.

I thought Susan Boyle, was fantastis, very sad she did not win, don’t give up Susan, you are my winner

I am from the UK and yes she does have a fantastic voice, but when people get too cocky in their behaviour and automatically think they are going to win it then thats what puts the British public off. Paul Potts won because he won over the public he was shy and did not see what a great talent he had, whereas Susan Boyle became too over the top the way she acted after she had sung was cringe worthy, If Susan had stayed the person that won everyone over in her first audition then i think the results would have been different. I am glad Diversity won they also had talent but in a different way it is a talent contest not just a singing contest!! I note that a lot of your responses insult us Brits which i think is rather unfair. Have any of you actually watched the show from the beginning, i doubt that very much, or just because all of a sudden Susan Boyle became famous thanks to millions of hits on You tube?? I am sure Susan will go on to have a successful career even if she may not have won the show so either way she is still a winner.

I am happy that so many people have been taken up with Britain’s got Talent
But Diversity were very worthy winners – the humour and imagination of their routine, the closeness and support of the group and just the joie de vivre they showen – we all LOVED it.
And watching Susan Boyle, I really believe she was actually relieved not to come first -the look on her face waiting for the result and the smile afterwards showed it all
And to be honest I think Shaheen could match her with his vocal!

  • Annette

By the way forgot to say – I am from the UK!
My daughter saw Diversity perform in a shopping centre near us and said they were the friendliest bunch she had ever seen – no bad attitude at all

poor susan! the media are like rabbied dogs. so wot if she swore? dont we all? how very hypocritical to judge her for that. remember people: u love her cos she’s one of us, dont try make her perfect. we swear, she swears. and she hasnt got an army of publicists behind her. look wot the press did to britney or diana. doesnt the press have more pressing matters to print than looking with crutiny at everything she does? it’s all for the money cos they know she can bring the cash in. we crave reality. and it makes money: jade goody made millions of her death, now they need a new milky cow, and oh there goes susan!! just let her sing. that’s all the woman wants, and personally, that’s all i want to hear as well.

  • Andrew

As a “GB person” with “no class or taste in entertainment” as the post above says, I’d like to respond! Susan Boyle is a fantastic singer, no doubt about it but she is not an original act. So many shows now produce singer after singer that when something like Diversity comes along, it catches the imagination. Did you see them in the final – they were absolutely electrifying. “Class” in every sense of the word. We actually cheered out loud when they won – not because we don’t like Susan Boyle but because the best act on the night won.

And why shouldn’t they perform in front of the Queen? We haven’t watched the Royal Variety Performance for years because its the same old thing every year. We will be this year and I bet the viewing figures will rocket this year because something exciting will happen.

Our press here in the UK can be harsh but don’t patronise us that we don’t have class when it comes to entertainment. 25% of the vote went to Diversity because people loved them, not because they didn’t like Susan Boyle.

I am sadden that Susan Boyle didn’t win the first spot. But she is a winner in her wonderful voice that brought lots of tears to most. This is a good example of “Don’t Judge A Book By It’s Cover”. You go! Susan Boyle. I love your voice and I cannot wait to get your CD.

  • Benjamin

To Miss Boyle. Please get well soon. Come to Canada and bring Pebbles too!

The thing that truly bothered me is why some people (in the media are being mean to her despite they barely know her. I’m totally okay with Diversity winning and nothing should justify any SB’s fan to comments otherwise. But I’m puzzled why, even after she had lost (as she had hoped for) the media still wants to killed her dreams and her sanity? And those who cursed on her, what had she done to them so far to make them angry on her? SHE HAS DONE NOTHING TO EARN SUCH HATE!! The last time an angel emerged from Britain to remind the world that there’s still hope and goodness in humanity was in the name of Princess Diana. The ruthless media first praised and hyped her, then backlashed her and finally killed her in the process. Then after she’s dead they still want to make money out of her by pretending to cry for her and publish all sorts of nice stories of her for the grieving public to buy. Now another one is coming in the name of Susan Boyle, less pretty of course and with different approach compared to Diana. But still for some reason people were reminded not to lose hope. Let the Brits remind themselves not to let the same thing happened twice.
