The 63rd Tony Awards were last night and there were many great achievements including “Billy Elliot” winning the best musical award and as we mentioned in an earlier post, the three teenage stars of the musical jointly winning the best actor in a musical award.
But according to theledger.com, Karen Olivo also achieved a Tony Award for best performance by a featured actress in a musical. This was for playing her role as Anita in the revival of the musical “West Side Story” on Broadway.
Olivo, who was born in 1976, is a 1994 graduate of Lakeland’s Harrison Center for the Visual and Performing Arts. She has been in many other shows on and off Broadway that include “Rent” and last year’s Tony Award winning musical “In The Heights.”
