Tony Awards 2009: Angela Lansbury wins her fifth

Angela Lansbury has been in many plays including Broadway musical “Mame.” But we may know her better for her film and television roles. I know her best for her role as Jessica Fletcher in the long running TV detective drama series “Murder She Wrote.”

Lansbury won her first Tony Award for leading actress in a musical category in 1966 for “Mame,” then again in 1969 for “Dear World,” then another in 1975 and another in 1979 for “Sweeney Todd.” The 2009 award is the first for best featured actress in a play.

Good for Angela! The Tonys appreciate a really great talent, unlike the Oscars and Emmys. She should have won an Oscar for Manchurian Candidate and should have won several Emmys for Murder She Wrote. She’s truly a national treasure!
